Default 55 AX equal to Saito 72

I am looking to switch the Saito 72 in my extreme flight Edge to my Hanger 9 Cub 40. (Everyone knows a cub needs a 4 stroke) but what engine should i put on my Edge? Is a 55 AX capable of the 3d prop hanging power of the 72?

I replaced a Saito 82 with an OS55. I had replaced a Saito 72 with the 82. In my case I would say "absolutely" the 55 would be a step up over the 72. My plane is an original design sport plane, not a light weight 3-D type. I like all my Saito's but the 55 is a fine engine. It will accelerate my plane vertically at least as well if not better than the 82. It seems to really like large props. The throttle up with a wooden 12x5 is instantaneous.
This doesn't answer your question but might help.

Also try it with a 13x4 Xoar prop and a Tower Hobbies muffler. The Xoar lets it spool up faster and the pipe adds about 300 rpms. My 55 AX on a 4.5 lb PRIMO is an even match in a vertical drag race with my 4.5 lb MOJO with a Saito 82 and an APC 14x4W. I prefer the Saito for 3D because of the quicker and more even throttle response, but the 55 AX is at least a match for power.

The Tower muffler is OK, but for some real rpm, try a Jett Stream tuned muffler. 14,500 on a 12-5 APC on 10% Omega.

I might look into the tower muffler just for the cheapness.

Or, do a mousse-can pipe with Mac's header. Done right, you will have instantneous throttle response and gain approx. 1,000rpm. I don't run any two stroke on my profiles without one.

why does a cub need a 4 stroke? I prefer O.S. over Saito, but you might be losing the torque, which you need in 3d(or at least is nice to have)

The quality and flight characteristics of a cub go great with the sound of a four banger. Its only one kids opinion though.
