What servos are you guys using in the Reactor?
Santa is loading one in his sliegh for me so I have time to make decisions. I saw that the Futaba 9155 was recomended, but at $120 each that gets a little steep. I have used Hitec servos in the past with no issues and I see that they have some digitals for $55. Any thoughts?

I am trying to repair this fuse. The construction ply supplied is so bad that its virtually impossible.

A couple of you have said you used the Dubro HD control horns. I've used them on other planes but have problems getting them perpendicular in the front to back direction. How do you guys drill the holes?

I picked some up but found out that they are to thick to fit the GP clevices so I just used the horns that come with servos.

uk guys I am maidening my reactor tomarow and have a few questions. first of all i ran the crap out of my new ftl 52 today im gettin 5800 on a mentz 22-8 but am still running a very high oil content I have close to a gallon through it on lawn boy non sin.. do you think its too soon to go to klutz at 32-1. second with the stock tank 20 oz I think maby 24 I ran on the ground at 1\2 to full throtle and got 43 min out of a tank way longer than I will ever fly. so I am gooing to a 16 oz tank and adding a 14 oz smoke tank do you see any ishues with using a tank that small anyone used a 16 oz on a 50cc ? also every plane ive everhad ive put the tanks one behind the other but in this plane they need to go nextto each other how bad do you think that will effect my lat. ballance. my thought is beeing so close to the cg it shouldent affect it. please let me know what you think

I,ve had excellent results using the Hitec 5985 servos.
If you don,t want or need digitals and want to save some $ try the analog Hitec 985,s.
They cost about half what 5985,s are and they are coreless as well so they return to center with precision.

I have two planes with DL50's and 16oz tanks. There is usually a third of a tank left after a 12 flight.

I used the dubro stuff on the tail. Don´t understand your problem. I just drilled the holes at the center of the plywood on the control surface, perpendicular to the middle of the wing. Then I redrilled the control horn, to get the pivot point just over the hinge line.
I am using hitecs 5955 on the tail, and some olds 5945 on the wings.

Vacaman,
My problem is getting the hole perpendicular to the middle of the wing. Using a drill press, I put a spacer under the trailing edge of the control surface hoping that the drill is perpendicular to the wing. When I'm done drilling all the control surfaces, they aren't all perpendicular. I may have to try some other method of jigging the surfaces to get them perpendicular. That is what I'm looking for suggestions on.

BTW, my wife and I will be in Santiago for a couple of days in January at the end of a two week cruise around South America.

I understand. I do the same that you described and if a hole isn´t perpendicular to the wing middle I enlarge it a little until the bolt has a correct aligment. To prevent that the bolt move around on the bigger hole I just glue small pieces of hardwood. Remember, more important than the bolt being perpendicular to the wing or control surface, is that the pivot point must be at 90º respect the wing middle and hinge line. Also the distance between hinge line and pivot point must be equal on each elevator half and ailerons, so they have the same deflection than the other side.

Nice to hear that your wife and you are coming to Santiago. Probably you would not have any time to a visit our field, but if you have, we will be more than happy to receive your visit, and do what we do best, a big barbecue, well and flight too. Just let me know.
Unfortunately you will spend a couple of days only, becouse whe have a very beatifull places with a huge contrast, from the most arid desert (Desierto de Atacama) to very wet and cold territory, where are native forrests, rivers and other natural beauties. To my point of view, Santiago isn´t that nice.

Well the Reactor arrived yesterday and my wife, I mean Santa, asked me to make sure there was no damage. How could I refuse! I opened it up and everything looked OK. Now I have to wait a month before I can dig into it

I my Reactor was delivered yesterday, but I won't get to start on it until this weekend. Any more flight reports? Any modifications we should make to the plane?

THis plane looks alright, but when comparing a QQ yak 54 50cc plane (on sale right now for 499.99) and the reactor for 430.00

I would have to pass.....and go for the qq yak...

Issue is that I was looking for a aircraft like this one that would work well with a sub 50cc like my zdz40 (lightened model f3A)...

I have a 50cc DA but it is is a tf giant p-51.... so that won't work....

guess I could just pick up a China 50cc and the qq yak...??

I guess GP sweetens the deal by offering 60$ off but still not the same amount that qq does...
Who has it on sale for $499?
Chuck 1...

QQ has them on sale direct from his website http://www.qqaircraft.com/planes.asp...&s_PLANE_CAT=d
That would certainly be a great buy for a QQ Yak.
Thanks
Barry

You can pick up a Aeroworks Yak for 550$ on sale!!!!!! Great deals out there right now!!!
QQ's were sold out on there page, but Aeroworks has theres in stock!!!

Hope that Helps!!!!

Default RE: Great Planes Reactor 120-160?

My Reactor came out very nose heavy, I put 30gr of lead on tail, but it needs more to perform 3d maneuvers well. I didn´t liked where the switch is placed, is under the wing. I also reinforced the choke system.
Other thing that should be improved is the upper part of the firewall, mine bends when the engine is loaded. I am going to install a aluminium angle, from side to side, screwed on the firewall and bolted to the engine mounts.
Hope that helps.
