Hey Barry & CeeGee,
Kinda like what CeeGee said. Knot even enough wind to disturb the flag on the end of my antennae. For every mph its approx. 0.6knots, or is it the other way around. I don't know the fishing report guy said the knots thing as I was getting out of the truck. I do think its the 1-0.6 ratio though. Either way it was a great day. But when the drizzle stops and the peckernats come out its just a matter of time till the big rain comes, so I knew it was time to leave.

See ya..........

38,

Ok, I got 2 of your raffle tix for the QQ 72, I NEED to win that, everytime I go to JC's I drool. What a great idea your club has.....what are you planning to spend the dough on? runway? I think about getting the larger 85" and going w/ a DA50 or ZDZ, we'll see when they are actually available.

I had been struggling w/ my UCD 46, little krap ...... remote glow would not stay on (Saito's dont seem to like the Sullivan remote head lock, but the McDanniels/Sonic Tronic seems to work so far) then the fuel tank lines must have had a pin hole (8 min flights)

How about I found a Saito 72 over at the Robinson Hobby Town 1/2 off! I paid 112 + tax for a 224 engine! Couldn't pass it up even though I had an 82 waiting for it. Im still fooling w/ the prop size/pitch, found a 13x4W APC at JC, gonna try it tomorrow.

Peaceout.

Mac

i helped build the yak along with 6 friends. we were going to spend the money on a paved runway but we found a mower that cuts shorter than the mower we have.

I am through with UCD's. I was on my 3rd flight of my second UCD and the stab failed, (both sides). I did not have a chance to fly it 3D as I was still getting the motor to work right inverted. I was coming back around and thinking of pulling a loop at about 100 feet up and I felt a really heavy gust of wind come along. I was flying straight and level about a 100 foot up and 300 yards out when both stabs flew off at almost the same time. Upon investigation of the crash, I noticed the balsa leading edge failed. Keep in mind, this wasn't a cut through the monokote for glueing or anything else like it. I called them but got the usual reply of "Our planes are not warrantied. What a crock. I guess I just don't rate with them. Oh well, I will not buy another one, that is for sure. In case you are wondering, the first one went in due to a failed attempt at knife-edge flight, which it cannot do. I loved my first one, but didn't like the CS from GP. Woe is me. Have fun guys.

runover1. Sorry about your loss. That is weird. I have had 4 UCDs and haven't had anything come apart and I fly them pretty hard. My fail for other reasons. It's a shame you are going to deprive yourself of one of the truly FUN airplanes on the market because of this problem. But I understand your opinion. I had the same thing with the Funtana. Best day I've had in this hobby was when I gave it away.
gjeffers. Yes. I'm flying the UCD46. Flew it 5-13 minute flights today. Strong wind. I'd guess it to be about 20 knots. Give or take .6. Anyways I had forgot how much I missed the blue and white checkerboard. What a fun day. And contrary to what runover1 says, I can KE mine until the sun won' shine. It also does a nice KE coupling. I love it. I did some outstanding hovers for me. I'd say in the 30-60 second range with a torque roll or two. I haven't flown one of these in about 8 months and yet it felt like I flew it yesterday. What an old friend. Literally the only trimming I had to do was 3 clicks of right aileron. Everything else was spot on. Man I just had a great time. The landings were a little tricky because of the wind but I just dialed in a bit of spoileron and landed. No big deal. The 82 seems like the right engine but for some reason I felt like I needed more power. Didn't seem that way last year.!!!!!! Couldn't do a rising flat spin, too much wind, but I really did some good ones that were nice and flat. Also, into the wind I did some great waterfalls. She was tumbling end over end so fast I thought it was tied to itself. And I did great KE with it. Even into the wind was able to use elevator, not that much really, (no mix) and go the entire length of the runway, but then again, our runway is only 600 feet long. Better to the right than the left for some reason. I just had a great day. What a nice, FUN airplane. It doesn't do everything the best but it does everything and for some reason, it just more fun with a UCD.
Thanks,
Barry

Almost forgot. No crashes. Really not even close. That's pretty good for me. But this plane instills so much confidence I will try almost anything. And ususally I get away with it. And in it's own right I think it's a pretty plane. This one is the best one I've built. I really paid attention to detail and building it light. At 5lbs 12 ozs I think it's about there without adding a bunch of expensive options. My Futaba S9001 servos on the ailerons scare me a little because they are plastic gears but they're rated at 54 ozs torque and the performance is nice. I had some left over and either needed to toss they or use them somewhere. I elected to use them but I'm keeping a close eye on them.
Oh, did you guys know that hawks chase flat spining planes? Wierd.
Thanks,
Barry

Hey Barry,
It might have even been 1.6mph to each knot I like those flat spins too, & my inability to knife edge just keeps me going out & practicing. I'm with you this is a great airplane. No need to give it up.

Hey CeeGee,
Hurry up and sell that thing so you can get back in the air.

Good Luck & see ya............

sounds like a good week for everyone, the house will pass CEEGEE and you will be back to normal in your NEW HANGAR soon having fuuuuun
Barry, your making me jealous now!!!! i cant get mine to waterfall[:@] let me get this straight(anyone chime in) i get max elevator, go up, stall nose up and kick it in the a^& and give full down and it should spin tight nose under tail right? also ive tried all entrances and none work, tell me howand yes i have about 10-15 red tailed hawks that come out from the mountains you see in my pics and fly with me all the time, never thought much about it but there my only flying buddies, and ill guarantee you that you cannot catch(hit) one, but they get real close like they enjoy it also i do have my advantages flying by myself(got to be positive)
my favorite thing right now is coming by inverted at just above stall and pumping the motor a little to keep it from dropping to the ground , its just fun

gjeffers. Waterfall: Fly level into the wind. I always have wind. Let off throttle, full down elevator, as soon as the nose starts back up full throttle, leave the throttle on until it goes over the top, chop the throttle as quick as you can. While you are doing that pump the elevator from neutral to full down every time you hit the throttle. It's good time, and a great UCD that's required to do a good water fall. This 46 does it great, so does my Mayhem. They aren't that hard really. Sometimes you have to feed in aileron if it trys to wash out.
thanks,
Barry

Thanks Gjeffers, I look forward to the grand opening of the new hangar. Can't wait. Sorry to hear you have to fly all alone. Yikes!! Sounds serious. As for those Redtails, probably being territorial or curious. I used to fly Redtails on rabbits. I was a falconer for about 6 years. They are very easy to catch.

Spud, I did check out the thread they have going on the Matt Chapman. Sounds like people just love it and it sounds like it flies pretty well on a 3 prop 12x6.
