perkinsm, Sorry for your mishap. Yikes!! I imagine that's what all these UCD's look like though after a crash. Pretty delicate airplanes. Again, sorry. I hate to crash. It leaves you with a kind of weird feeling. Good you have another one to get ready to go.

That's pretty much what my first 3 ended up looking like. All of mine were pilot error although I was tempted to scream at somebody for shooting me down with their radio, throwing rocks, talking while I was flying or some other thing but in my heart I knew it was me. Man it can happen so fast. The problem with this plane is it's so fun to fly and so easy to do stunts, that you forget to respect the hobby. Then it happens, a small mistake and you do an inverted flat spin landing. The good thing with this plane is that with the color scheme it's almost certain you can tell if you crashed right side up or inverted. I always appreciate that.
Thanks,
Barry

Im guessing that that happened because of your ming mount block. I flew mine ONCE and it broke, but it dident crash at all (maiden flight too!). Well as for my motor mount problem, i have a great planes mount in it right now and its too short for the engine to poke out of the cowl. I need atleast a 4 and a half ince motor mount, but so far cant find any.... Ill keep looking but as a last resort ill pick up a saito .72....Not what I want to do as I dont have 200 bucks to drop right now but hopefully it wont come to that. And yes my fuel lines were hooked up right, it just kept flooding and made it impossible to start and idle.....Im side mounting it as soon as I get a engine mount that fits. And I run a O.S. .46 which I love on my spitfire, and on the UCD but it needs to run in order to fly right?

Colin,
How about just moving the cowl back a little to achieve your engine mount location? I don't like doing it, but will when I need to. 4 extra holes in a cowl never hurt anyone.

^^Yes its inverted.

^Well i moved it back as far as i could and not only does it look awfuly, but it would look non existant and would act as a piece of fiberglass drag rather than a cowling....Plus i already cut it out to fit the 4.5 inch motor mount (which was done by putting the GP mount that came with the plane on 1" plywood blocks creating a space between the motor mount and firewall).

Well my son maidend his and had 8 successful flights, including 5 deadsticks because of the small tank. i thought it had a 11oz tank and he wasnt sure so i set it up for 12 mins the first flight ,didnt make it,nice deadstick landing, thought it was the engine and worked on it and took off again, deadstick , nice landing, worked on engine again(cleaning everything) and deadsticked again, all at about 7 min into flight and then things began to click and we figured it out and set the timer for 7min and landed with hardley any fuel. How many oz is this tank? i dont have a conversion chart. but the evo 46 would run 10 min easy with the h9 arrow 11oz tank. any way here is some pick of our planes and us, and here is my blazer Kokomo. Later!

Predator......Can you do one thing for me? Put your engine back on the plane inverted. Now, take your fuel line that comes out of the fuel tank and make it loop up above the carburetor before it goes into the carb. I had to do this to keep my saito from drowning when I did a test run with it on my Alpha trainer. See if this help any at all. Make sure you dont let any of the fuel line go below the carb. I put my quick fill connection above my carb and that solved my problems. Try it out and see what happens. What can you lose?

gjeffers.....Man, thats a pretty nice blazer! Looks like it could use a little paint job. That really looks good tho. The frame thats on my Nova came off of a blazer of about your year blazer. 79' to be exact. I can't really see in the pic what that blue thing is on the fromt of the grille. I know you said you had a winch on it but I haven't ever seen a blue one. Looks good man! good job!
Looks like Y'all have lots and lots of room to fly out in CA. I myself would prefer to be in the desert rather than the hill country. It rains alot and seems to be humid most of the time.

Is that you on the left?

perkinsm........sorry about your misfortunate crash. Hey, look at that landing gear!!!! It's still on! At least it stayed on the fuse this time!

One thing I wanted to point out, The elevator on the left side. Did this come off during the crash? When mine went in, it looked like similar to yours.....except, both my elevators broke off.

I never got to read about how it went in. So maybe I could help ya try and figger out why it went in.

LATER!

Kokomo, yea it is a chrome winch, and as far as the paint goes it wont last out here because all the four-wheel driveing out here there is a lot of brush and greasewood to go through and paint wont last long.

and i am the old kid on the right

gieffers, the standard tank size in the 46 is 9 ozs. It's a little small. I upgraded to 11ozs. With 11ozs I can fly 13 minutes and still have about 1 or 2 ozs left. It may be time to start leaning that Saito bottom end down. They are way too rich from the factory as I'm sure you know. That's cool you and your son are flying together. My son flys with me to but not nearly often enough.
Thanks,
Barry

gjeffers.......The paint that I used on the nova is PPG flat black tractor implement paint. It can withstand 1200 degrees, gasoline and it dosent chip or get scratches. It cost about 150 bucks a gallonand it has 3 gallons on it. I have had it thru lots of brush and all kinds of trees and you just wash off the scratches with water. I like it, but it sure gets hot in the Texas summer sun!

Barry, he (my son) has a evo 46 in it and he may need to lean it out , but were gonna find a bigger tank, maybe the one out of the arrow, its 11 oz.

Kokomo, did i mention i live within 30 miles of Death valley? if not , well lets put it this way, that brown on my blazer aint gonna get any darker[8D]. there is 5 coats of that paint and it dont scratch bad because scratches on scratches dont show bad at all. besides my next $400 is going for my jr8103

OK Colin,
Maybe I am not getting this right, but if you already have the engine mounted at 4.5" out, why would spinning the mount 90* change the depth of the cowl. You will probably have an extra hole or two to cut into the cowl and you may need a muffler extension, but it should work. I had my OS46FX mounted at 90* on my 1st UCD3D46.

Hi, I notice the UCD .60 in the picture. I have had one in the box for about 6 months and I bought a Saito 1.00 to put in it but it is going in my UCD .46 instead. My O.S. .70 doesn't give me the vertical pullout I want.
Regards, FRED

OK guys.....I got it all built and I weighed it today on a grams scale. I got 2764.5 grams with no fuel. How the heck am I supposed to convert that to pounds?

If I can remember correctly,

*30 grams is one ounce,
*16 onces in one pound,

If this is correct, I think I have a weight of 5 pounds 12 ounces.

SOMEONE PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG!!!!

hey Fred i am pondering the same after flying my sons, dont get me wrong cause i love my 60 but i just cant imangine a 46 with my 100,( the prob is that i can). i checked the firewall and noticed that they are the same width but just a little shorter in height and forgot to check the firewall thickness, anyone know if it is the same as the 60 or will i need to beef it up? he has left for home in vegas so i guess i will have to call him and have him measure it, but yes i think ill try it. he is going to order a magnum 91 for his.

ok, MY plane weighed out to 2764.5 grams......the convertion chart (thanks to CEEGEE) shows that my calculations were off a tad.

2764.5 grams = 6.0946792 pounds

So I am just over the 6 pound area.

Anybody else got their weights?

Welcome to "Extreme Make Over U Can Do 46- Part 1" Oh! Okay, it 's not extreme, but it is a make over. I originally finished my UCD with a clear canopy and a troll pilot but something was lacking. After looking at others on this forum I decided to re-do the 46 and make it look a lot more business like as in full 3D business. I got a new canopy and painted the inside black. Then I added some decals and especially the upside down 3D near the nose. I saw that on gjeffers plane. Hey, what the heck, we live thousands of miles apart and I figured he won't mind me stealing his idea. Anyway, then I drilled some lightening holes in the landing gear brace and ................................... TA DAAAAAAAaaaaaa..... A totally new look!! Check out the pics below....

no problemo ceegee, looks great, i did that because i was just getting good enough to do inverted flybys at about 5ft off the deck and keep seeing an upside down 3D and fixed it!!

good stuff huhh Kokomo? it just struck me funny too cause i served 2.5 years at ft Hood and know the heart o TEXAS verry well, and i know there is a fish scale in every store, 502 MP co 2nd armored Div, now 1st AD.
