Default Simulator and real life!

I have Real Flite 3.5 and have mastered 3D (hovering, torque rolls etc) with the Yak 54 (3D). I can hover on the simulator with the plane so close you can see only the canopy but at the field I cannot hover nearly as well. I realize real life changes things entirely. That's not the problem. None of my planes respond nearly as predictable as the Yak.

I decided to try it on the simulator with a tougher plane to fly. I selected the Great Planes Cap 232. Quite a difference! I cannot perform any of the hovering or torque rolls I was able to do with the Yak.

My question is, has anyone tried 3D with that plane and could you perform the those manuevers with it?

Thanks for any help.

Set up, set up, set up, set up and set up. The planes in 3.5 are setup perfectly... What I do is start tweeking the realfight planes untill they fly like my real planes. It takes awhile and can be a little frustating but it can be done. I even go so far as to down load the color schemes... or at least pretty close to the correct color schemes. I have a yak it flys just like the the one I set up in 3.5 All the bad habits too. Set it up like yours and practice and you'll be able to hover your real plane just like it. And yes I can 3D the Cap. It's pretty lame as is, try adding a little more deflection of the control surfaces and moving the CG back.

Samtech

Thanks for the help. I have changed the throws and have been moving the CG a little at a time.

You are right about the CAP. It is not a great 3D airplane. The ailerons are almost useless but I figured if I can do 3D with it I can do it with almost any plane. I didn't want it too easy because like you said almost every plane has some bad habits.

Make sure you're not using the Yak with the Gyro. Maybe download a profile or foamy.

When hovering, the most important thing is the CG, in my opinion. If it is not back far enough, you'll be fighting the plane constantly. I have AFPD and some planes are a bear to hover. First thing I do is move the CG back. I move it way back first and then forward. Just the reverse of real life. I don't care if I crash on the sim. That will usually cure the hover issue. I'll tweak the throws next.
