i am flying 40-60 sized airplanes and want to move up to a 1/4 scale 3d aircraft. i think that the dave patrick edge 540 is a good choice for a 3d machine. 1.how does this plane flys? any bad habits? how are the 3d preformance? 2.what engine should i use? i am thinking about moki but i dont know if 180 or 210? maybe o.s 160 fx is a good choice too? is it a good step to buy a nitro engine for those big airplanes? please help roy |

Roy,Im gona answer your first 3 ?s with more ?s so you dont have any confusion hear. 1.How do [YOU] flys? 2.Do {YOU} have any bad habbits? 3.How is {YOUR} 3D proformance? Thees are all the ?s I ask myself before i get a expensive plane and stuff it in the ground.I flys like a nutcase.I have more bad habbits than you WOULD NOT beleive. And my 3D proformane makes people  eek and run!I do admit Im a danger to my self some times, for I my self have to duck and run at times. But i allwas seem to come out smellin' like roses in the end. It takes a good piolot to over come a planes poor flying caracteristics. :stupid: lets just make sure the DP Edge 540 is worthy of us befor we buy it. COMON PEOPLE , GIVE US SOME FEED BACK!!!! :D |

i am pretty sure that my skill level is good enough to fly this plane.
i am just asking those questions because it's not a small amount of money to invest, and i wan't to ask people that have more expirience on those type of planes then me. - learn from others expirience is the best way. so please help us with the questions. roy :) |

The edge is not really a 1/4 scale plane. Like the gp patty wagstaff it is really closer to a 27 than a 25%. If you want any chance at real 3d you would need big glow (moki 2.1) or small gas, bme 50, zdz 40.
To minimize costs and stay with a 120-160 size Look at the lanier 1/4 scale edge. or the 72" katana from gsp or creek hobbies. Consider the 60 size extra from extremeflightrc.com good luck on whatever you purchase |
180 or 210 is just fine
i really want the dave patrick and not other models.
i dont care if it need a 180 or 210 i just want you to tell me more about this plane. what engines are you using guys? roy |

I'm flying mine with a Moki 1.8 and it flies awesome!

I have their extra 330 with a 1.8, not enough power for hard 3D. Going to try a 2.10 in it, Ive seen vids of it with this engine and it looked OK. If not, its getting a 3.2-50cc size gas! Figured I give this tidbit of info on the DP

weigh
what are the diffrences in weight betwin the moki 180 and 210?
maybe it's worth it... |

There's a 5oz difference according to the horizon website.

The 210 is only about $10 cheaper, I see no reason to buy the 1.8 over the 2.1!

I agree with JohnVH...if I didn't already have both I would have purchased the 2.10.
Make sure you follow the break in procedure to the letter. |

you are right guys...there is no much diffrence in weight and in money so the 210 is defenatly better.
i hope it will be o.k and not an overkill to the plane. by the way...what servos are you using on this airplane? thank you roy |
DP edge 540 - what engine? help!
It wont be overkill, but will be enough to pull out of a hover! Buy good HD servo's for the plane.

The 2.10 uses more fuel. the DP planes fly vary well. I use 1 gallon each week end.

RE: DP edge 540 - what engine? help!
Can anyone with the DP Edge 540 tell me what hardware is supplied with the Edge and what the quality is like?

RE: DP edge 540 - what engine? help!
I'm pretty sure the Edge is lighter than the Extra. Two Edges at my field, one with a Moki 210 and the other with an OS 160. The one with the 210 is about a pound heavier than the other. I've flown both. Both fly very well. The 210 has the advantage pulling out from a hover and has more latitude with the throttle setting while hovering, but both will climb out. The 160 has the advantage recovering to flight following full stalled 3D maneuvers. Can't go wrong with either engine. The 210 will use a bit more fuel but you can run $6 a gal home brew in it.
Quality is outstanding for an ARF. Toss the 2-56 push rods though. All the horns are steel Sullivan. My friend who runs the 160 has the elevator on pull-pull as well as the rudder and the accuracy and authority cannot be beat. You will however, need the weight of servos in the tail for the 210. |
RE: DP edge 540 - what engine? help!
i talked to Dave Patrick at the Joe Nall fly in this year. He recommended the 1.8 moki over the 2.10 because of the weight. There is a bigger weight difference than there is power. He recommends the servos in the fusalage not the tail for better cg. He says the issue is build as light as possible and it will perform awesome 3d with 1.8. I am going to take his advice and go with 1.8. P.S if you go gas it will void your warranty if you go with the 40cc or the 50's.

RE: DP edge 540 - what engine? help!
I had a 1.8 on my extra when I got it, it would hover and pull out, barely..
