Should I get it??? UMX Extra 300 3D BNF by E-flite

Hey guys so ive been in a debate with myself, deciding whether or not to build a 3D plane or go with the BNF extra from horizon?

Can I get some opinions on the BNF plane from horizon and whether or not it is a good plane?

Why not buy both. Flip a coin to see which one gets built first. Save the other one for latter. When in doubt, always buy an extra one. You can neverever have too many planes!!!

I have not flown the bnf extra but a club member has one. He usually flys 3d in the giant scale catagory and he was disapointed with it. He said you have to keep it under alot of power to fly it so it is hard to do the low and slow. He said if you are more into the scale performace and doing IMAC type flight with it that it is not to bad but you still have to keep it under alot of power. That is just what I heard though.

I think the little E-flite Extra flys great. It can do anything 3d and a lot just simple IMAC stuff. Only down side is it does require a lot of power to hover and harrier. Most of the time the stick is at least 3/4 throttle and pull out is not great but there. If you fly 3d your lucky to get 3-4 minutes. If you just cruise around doing loops, rolls, knife edge and such maybe can get 6-7 minute flights. I would say build a plane and outfit it with hobby city stuff. Cheaper and you'd more than likely be happier.

For a mass produced indoor 3D plane, the UMX Extra flys pretty good. A larger scratch built indoor 3D foamie flys better, but you can't take those out of the box, charge the battery, bind the plane to your transmitter, and go fly it.
Here's some raw unedited video of my UMX Extra flying in a small church gym.

Although It is not commonly known, the rx can be reprogrammed to reverse one aileron -making coupled flap/elevator possible. This makes the plane much easier to fly at low speeds . In close quarters you don't have to keep vectored flight going to hold down forward speed
It makes the model easier to "fly" in forward flight
You need power to do this as the down flap creates drag bu the tradeoff is good
I setup mine to have flaps and coupled elev flaps
I also did it on son's model
I used a DX6i on his and the DX8 on mine
My 125 sq in test project model is much slower but a bit heavy at 44 grams (32 oz on the umx300)
I can see now how to easily eliminate 7 grams without going to any cutouts - by using thinner foam
The increase in wing area really changes flying speeds
Hovering at 44 grams is chancy at best I have a new motor to try tomorrow and see if it really improves power
FWIW this model fits in the UMX carrying case .

if you want to fly a peice of lead fly the eflite but if you want a forgiving but great 3D trainer get a 3D hobby SHP. fly the best!!

fancy foam has its place.after years of flying everything I bought a twisted hobby xslick and have had a ball with it.I would tell a nebie start there first then go to a extremeflight or 3dhobby shp for advanced training.
