Best 3D setup?
OK, so I happen to have acquired an original NIB Irvine 53, and since I have a void in my hanger of any profiles, I have ordered a OMP ProYAK ARF. My question is what would be the best prop and servo's to use to get the most 3D from this setup. I am already pretty much sold on the xoar wood props (unless i get some better suggestions), but not sure which size is best. Also, would I even notice a difference with high end servos on this size plane, or would just be wasting my money on anything more than a good quality standard servo?
A little background on my flying...I consider myself an advanced pilot and have flown a great variety of airplanes, however, my 3D experience is somewhat limited. With previous profiles, I can do a decent Harrier, upright and inverted, rolling circles all day, and medium altitude hovers and torque rolls for several seconds, but cannot sustain much longer than that. I would like to be able to improve the hovers and get down a decent spin, blender, and waterfall. Thank for any advise, Mike |
RE: Best 3D setup?
A good set of digital servos are the way to go in a small profile like you got. I have always like the Spektrum DS821's because they are cheap and reliable. I think I got my last set of 4 off eBay for $60 or so. I used them in my last profile and it is the only way to go. You need a good strong servo that centers well in a 3D ship so non-digitals are not really going to help much.
As for the prop I am not very familiar with the motor you have but I really liked the APC 12.25x3.75 for my 55AX. |
RE: Best 3D setup?
Do a good deal of break-in and tuning on that Irvine before you take to the air.
12x4 Xoar is the prop for it. Ds-821's are a good place to start. As you get better you may like a faster servo and maybe a stronger one on the rudder. |
RE: Best 3D setup?
yeah it is not a bad idea to get a good metal gear for the rudder, especially if you do some tail touches!
