40 size 3D plane...
I am currently flying a Sig Somethin Extra with a Saito 72 for power. What would be the best flying 40 size 3D plane that I can transfer radio and engine too? I like the looks of the Funtana, but I have heard of some flight characteristics that I do not care for such as dropping wing on harriers and other slow and stall flight. I really like the way the SE flys, it just doesn't do the 3D stuff as good as something else might. I need to find something that looks good, flys great, not a profile fun fly, easy to purchase the kit and replacement parts in the states and weighs around 5-1/2 pounds or less (flying weight).
Thanks for any suggestions. Jeff |

U-Can-Do .46 maybe?

From what I have read, the U-Can-Do 46 is a little bit too heavy for the Saito 72, but I have been looking at it.

Without a doubt the UCD 46 could be lighter, it will be closer to 6 lbs . it would be a better floater at the mid 5 lbs
but your 72 would be perfect, Use a APC 14x4 or 13x4 wide blade prop. The correct prop makes a huge difference in performance. Mine will not harrier well , but it is a much better plane than the S.E. The UCD 46 will even do a decent pattern plane impersonation and the knife edges are excellent at the proper CG. and it hovers and torque rolls easily It is actually a much better flying plane than the 60 size and I like the 60 size You may have to join the elevators together to eliminate the weight of an servo at the rear.,to balance it without additional counterbalance. This is not difficult to do. If you want something strictly for wild 3D look at a Flip. I think the Global Freestyle is an underated plane I'm assuming your looking for an ARF . |

The Saito is a screamer, currently running a 13x6 apc with 30% cool power heli. It turns 11200 rpm peak and I back it off to 10800 rpm to fly. I will have to take a closer look at the UCD.

Take a look at the new Lanier Razor 3D which will be out next month:
http://www.lanierrc.com/lrcprivate/L...es/razor3d.htm I saw the prototype with YS63 tip the scale at 4.5 lb less rcvr and battery. Should be great with a Saito 72. Appears to be lighter than UCD46 or H9 Funtana :D . |

Second on the Flip.
However, I recently flew a Extra Magic with a 72 in the nose and it was pretty good. I flys similar to the SE, however with the longer moment it hovers very well. If you are ready to set up to the hard care stuff, go with the Flip. |

I love my Flip it's a real in your face 3D monster. However the UCD 46 is much better flying plane than most people will ever know. It maybe be one of the best 40 size ARFs ever designed. It will do a nice slow roll or 1 roll rolling circle or a knife edge elevator or loop. Most importantly is just feels right and looks good. It's not good at stall maneuvers but for a the average weekend 3Der it comes as close to doing it all as anything I've flown.
Every plane has its limitations but some planes are just so fun to fly you don't notice. |

I have a ucando, and i fly it beyond the stall almost all of the fight! maybe yours is setup differently than mine is though.... I have the cg at 6 inches back and about 50 deg. o fthrow on the elevators |

i 3rd the flip, all the way

pop
I can drag it around nose high but mine doesn't (lock in ) like a tapered wing plane will. I can't get mine to do a decent elevator even at 6" CG my elevator throw is at least 45% maybe I need more. Always something new to learn. |

hhmmmmm maybe i was wrong when i was talkin about the stall thing, i think you guys are right, my mistake, but then again, my u can do flies different than all of the other ones i have flown too. I will try that tomorrow when i go flyin again and see if mine will do it, and get back to you
