Servos for Funtana 90/DLE 20 Combo

I have a Funtana 90 with DLE 20. Getting ready to install servos. I have 3 HS-5625MG servos and 3 HS-625MG servos. Which control surfaces most warrant the extra speed/torque/resolution of the digital servos and which control surfaces would suffice with the analogs?

put the stronger ones on the ailerons.

Rudder will need the strongest servo followed by the elevator and the ailerons don't need as much.

Correct.....but the digitals are faster, stronger and are supposed to center a lot better.

put the 56265 ailerons and rudder, and 625s on elevators

625 vs 5625... the 5625 is faster and stronger yes...not sure about the centering part

eather way those servos are fine rember with that airframe to save some weight

and use a IEBC i like syssa's IEBEC the orange one's ive had go bad on me . let me find you the link

That's pretty much what I was thinking too. Thanks for the input.

I'm going with 6v on this. How much battery capacity should I be using? NiCd or NiMh?

Another IBEC is now available from RCEXL; I bought mine from Valley View hobbies. [link=http://www.valleyviewrc.com/estore/rcexl-opto-gas-engine-kill-switch-with-bec-6-6v.html]kill w/BEC 6.6v[/link]. They just added the one with voltage stepdown for LiFe/A123 batteries. I put mine in my GP Reactor/DLE55 combo and flew it for the first time again a week ago. I previously had a separate 4.8v pack/switch for the ignition; saved about 6oz with the new setup. I am using a single 3600mah nimh pack to run it all; might switch to a couple LiFe packs for more peace of mind. I checked the ignition voltage; it regulates it right to 6.0V.

Skip the regulator and go a123. Far superior in every way to NiMh or NiCd. Simple and less failure points.

Even better, I"ve also seen where some are using single LiPo battery and using the pack balancing pigtail to power the gas engine ignition. Turns out it outputs 3.3 volts and they have been having great success and no problems with this setup.

You still need a regulator for the servos with a LiPo (unless you spend large cash for HV servos) which is another failure point.
a123 still wins at 1100, 2200, 3300, and 4400 in size. No regulator needed.

Personally, I'm not sure what to trust or where to draw the line on safety/redundancy, etc. I thought I'd give the 50cc plane a try on the single battery setup; I would definitely do it for a 20-30cc size plane, for the weight savings. Like I mentioned before, I have a single nimh pack/single switch with the RCEXL kill/BEC now. I might be a little more comfortable with 2 1100 6.6v packs and a good bat share switch, like a Wolverine from Fromeco. Each component in that string can be a failure point: battery, switch, kill/BEC, or rx. Go with what you're comfortable with...depending on your wallet's thickness! lol

I've been flying 50cc aerobats on a single A123 2300 for a while now. A 7 dollar drop down diode goes before the ignition.

No problems.

The digitals have more holding power @ center. Put the best servos on the Aile on this plane. Most planes I would say put the best on the rudder. Not on this one.

if he used an RC Xcel ign he still needs a reg.... they operate from 4.8-6 volts... ive read too many stories in the gas section of people motors running strange at over 6 volts

so you run the whole system, servos and ignition on one 2300? what IBEC are you using? do you do a lot of 3d? how many flights before you recharge?

RE: Servos for Funtana 90/DLE 20 Combo

1 Attachment(s)
Mainly 3D.

1 2300Mah battery from WrongWayRC on my 50cc stuff, I order the battery with two JR leads (and a balance tap).
One goes to a HD switch then to the reciever.
One lead goes to a HD switch, an 42% scale optical kill, to a wrongway ignition voltage reducer (inline diode) to the DLE ignitions.

I charge afer 4 flights with a Cellpro 4S, takes about 10 minutes and puts back 50 to 55 percent of the capacity.

Both are 7955s all around with DLE 55's.

what charge rate do you you use at the field? and more less how many milliamps do you pump in the battery in the 10 mins it takes to charge? sorry for all the questions, im getting into the a123 and LiFe batteries...

RE: Servos for Funtana 90/DLE 20 Combo

I put (2) 15 minute flights on my Reactor and put back in over 3000mah; however, I don't think I was topped off before those flights. That plane also has 4 aileron servos, so I have a little more draw than the average 50cc setup (all digital on the flying surfaces). Weather looks good for tomorrow; I'm hoping to get a few flights in and will check usage again on the single pack with a full charge.
