i was wondering if you guys know a sight that tell you what to do with your sticks to do 3d areobatics. i have a 46 ucando and i want to do waterfalls, blenders, flat spins, walls. elevators, i want to do it all. or if you guys could tell me it would be a real help.

Mike McConville explains a few of the maneuvers you want to learn. Also, remember that by definition, 3D flying is "controlled" flight BELOW the aircraft's normal stall speed.

Start learning WAY high ... the ground comes into play VERY fast when learning 3D.

Best advice I give anyone wanting to learn 3D ... Buy the Great Planes Real Flight G2 Simulator. There are several planes you can download from realflight.com that are designed as 3D training planes and it reduces the chance of a lost aircraft exponentially.

Feel free to ask some 3D pilots at your field to show you some tips & tricks. We love having our brains picked :)

In closing, let me say this ... Don't use gyros when leaning prop hangs and torque rolls. Do it on your own and you will really be learning the maneuvers.

If you don't know what the 3d manuevers really look like then download some videos. Check out www.3dbatix.com Zak and the guys have some nice videos on there. Check out the Funtana freestyle video, i really like it. Don't know if it is on the site yet but there was a thread introing it a while ago.

I agree with adrian when he says practice practice practice!!!

I see so many people asking how to do these manuvers. The sites listed above are good places to start but dont expect to just be able to go out and put in the motions given on the sticks and poof! 3D appears. With the exception of the blender, most of the 3D manuvers have a feel for them. I could explain to you how to do a torque roll until I am blue in the face but your not going to be able to just go out and do it. Its sort of like driving a straight shift automobile. People can tell you that you press in the clutch and add gas and realease the clutch but until you try it many times your not going to figure it out. Someone once told me they could teach anybody to hover for $100. They said buy $100 worth of fuel and practice hovering constantly until the $100 worth of fuel is all gone :)

Practice might help a little, but PERFECT PRACTICE is the KEY.

Just make sure you know what to and how to practice.

Thay are most definetly correct though it takes a lot of flying.

Another important factor is to have the correct attitude, you must fly outside your envelope and take chances. Make sure you are safe but you have to fly at the seat of your pants. I have made drastic improvement in not that long of time frame only because I take risks and am not afraid to crash. All of that worry over crashing is a waste, I lost only my Magic 3d thus far and that was only because i was flying at a new field and while in a flat spin I didn't realize there were 40ft tall trees awaiting. All that worry is a waste!!!!

I suggest getting Jason Shulman's and Frank Knoll, Jr's video tapes. If a picture is worth a thousand words then a video is worth (you do the math <vbg>)

While both do a good job they do have some differences. I watch both from time to time. Then go practice!

I think the basics are key: If you're flying "normal style" and giving an input on any control surface, (irregardless of plane orientation ie up, down, belly to you, away from you, torwards or away from you, etc) and then saying oops, wrong way, you're not ready yet. A sim can help here. A TR on the deck can be learned in RF. It won't be the same in real life, but you'll know what to do when the plane suprises you. After the basics, push the envelope. I stayed up high hovering for a summer, and when I finally did get the nerve to go low, I found it was no big deal. You've got to take pretty big steps or you'll never get there, but, make sure you have the basics down first.

When learning 3D it is imperative that you be very comfy with your airplane. If your really wanting to learn 3D and want to do it without hitting the ground to many times then you should feel very confident recovering your airplane in ANY attitude. Upside down should feel just as good as right side up.

If you want to know a site that can help you with 3d/Freestyle, there is absolutly no better site than this. Just ask questions!!!!

I don't go to clubs cause the distance, but this site has helped me a bunch.

Sometimes this forum is more about equipment than aerobatics, but don't be afraid to ask. Why don't you start with a thread asking about waterfalls or walls or flat spins....

Then buy a bunch of fuel and go tear up the sky till you get it!!!!!
