Wildcard 3d

Has anyone tried out the Irvine wildcard 3d? How does it compare to other FF models?

Ive seen quite a few close up at the shows(and seen some crash!), and it looks like its skinny fuselage will be poor at knife edge. If you are going to fly it slowly and relatively gently and NOT like a pylon racer then it should be fine, but the very light wing wont take much abuse like flying around at full power and full power square loops. I saw one of these have catastrophic wing failure during a very sharp pull out at full power.

we have one in our club, on its first few flights it had a mid air, so the owner had to buy a new one! this one is lasting a bit longer so far....

the guy thats flying it is not really into 3d but is trying, it seems very slow and controllable with excellent rudder authority.
ditch the links in the kit.
but what a colour scheme-YUK!

I've flown 3 of them, I don't rate them for 3d at all, although they can do it. Better for sport.

Pay the extra and get either a Hype, 3styla, capiche, or extreme lite.

Hello

Wildcard - a freind did a lot of the design work on it, he said - great for a really cheap ARTF, but little more than that.

If you can afford it and looking for something that looks set to be the benchmark. The new Madness 2 from ZN Line, looks set to be the best Fun Fly ever! All the existing designs are variants of the original Madness. Christope (CPLR) was the first to design a model this way!

Best Regards

to add to cartmans post, i was impressed with number two...
slow flying within the patch and nice rudder for control line circuits, good prophang. think the fuz looks a bit weak above the wing...
Hype or 3Styler would be better, but wildcard is good for the light weight sports plane it is

Capiche 08-30-2003 08:54 PM

Fun Fly

Hello,

If you are considering the wild card then it must be a 3D fun fly plane you seek.... in which case much of the advice given is fair but perhaps the Capiche is NOT suitable.... this is more artistic aero, 3D, Mini TOC, and a whole load of other names its been given LOL..

Its not really a prop hanging machine. Whilst it does it you need to be be higher skilled to get away with it...

Its not a FFly basically...

I must admit... my favourite looks wise (and I dont just mean scheme) is the Madness 2 at this stage....but availability might be an issue...

good luck !

my mate did a real nice landing in the feild one (deadstick) and the fus snaped in 2 :( i dont say its a 3D machine, stick with yor hype or get a flip! Just my "2 cents"

On close inspection of the various wCards at my club a typical cheapy. The fuse depth over the wing is too small and this is where they snap. Both the Madness and the Flip have substancial depth and use good quality build and timber construction.

Thanks for info. Think I'll ditch the idea of the wildcard. I nearly lost my hype on Sat. The elevator went sloppy, still don't know why, and caused major stab flutter. I'm looking at a flip tonite.

have you strengthand yourtail on the hype? thats the trait of the aircraft, they often snap etc.

It's supposed to be the new revised kit. I looked down the fus and there is a lot of balsa around the stab. It's had about 20 flights with no probs. I was thinking of using thing carbon rods as struts and also re-doing the cable system on the elevator. I've just bought a Flip 3D, so the Hype will have to go.

keep the hype, just incase you crash! what engine are you going to put in the flip, get the west in it!

I'm going to start off with my OS46. I've been looking at the ASP 52 and Irvine 53. I wouldn't mind the Weston 50, but it's a lot of cash. One of the reasons the Hype has to go.

the os wont be great....sorry....the best thing to do is get either a YS 63 or a west 50T1

antsis 09-02-2003 02:31 PM

The os will give me a feel of the a/c. What about the Irvine or ASP motors?

Ian.W 09-02-2003 02:34 PM

the irvine 53 will be OK, the asp 52: slightly better, but not much

You would recommend the West 50Ti then?

Ian.W 09-02-2003 03:15 PM

Wildcard 3d

yep, unless you whant a YS, but you need 20% fuel

johnyh 09-02-2003 04:41 PM

Wildcard 3d

Antis Save your money the ASP 52 with a 12.25 X 3.75 running on 10% duraglo is all the power you need for the Flip. The YS is a myth. the flip is a light plane and doesn't require a torquey engine.

Luke 3D returns 09-02-2003 05:32 PM

Wildcard 3d

Dont know if you want as much power as possible, but the flip isnt that light(5lbs upwards i think)So you will need at least 6 lbs static thrust to hover. I have heard that the ASP 52s is a bit more powerful than the irvine so it may be enough, but you will get more power than that with a West 50 or YS or Saito i believe!

why insult a light plane with a fff four stroke? go 2 stroke.........

four stroke page

lol thats a great page

Luke 3D returns 09-02-2003 08:22 PM

i hope some poor beginner doesnt take it seriously and attack the first person he sees who has a fourstroke!

Biggles-RCU 09-02-2003 08:36 PM

Wildcard 3d

A fourstroke model is?

1. More Controlable
2. The YS has a built in fuel pump, so fuel delivery is superb.
3. Quieter.
4.The YS 63 produces the same power - as a 90 4-stroke!!
5. Instantanoues throttle response

Sure, you are paying extra, but you are getting the best. And the best in anything is expensive!

I've switched from two strokes - after flying a friends plane with a 4 stroke. It's been expensive but more than worth it!

Besides - the Flip is heavy for a fun fly - Madness 2 looks a lot lighter!
