Has anybody attended a 3-D FUNFFLY?
To much negitive at just regular FUN FLYS, about the 3D flyers.
I thought we will just have a 3D fun Fly get rid of all the negtive BS.
Any information would help.

The Profile Brotherhood Fun Flys are 3D fun flys. Its not only profiles, but any hovering, flipping plane is welcome.

There is one coming up in Nashville, September 6th.

The one in Houston earlier in the year was a great success.

Rule one at a Pro Bro, No complaining and if you have a problem with several airplanes hovering inch's over the runway, you at the wrong event :D

Put one together in your area, your right, most fun flys frown down on 3D.

Yep! We are in need of a serious 3D only fun fly event. I notice we are also lacking for 3D competition. Sure we have lots of freestyle competition where 3D takes place but it seems to always be the guy who mixes just the right amount of IMAC in that wins (not to say there is anything wrong with that). But there needs to be a 3D only event and 3D only competition. There could be a scale division and a non scale division where anything is flown. HOVERING IS NOT AN OPTION it is REQUIRED!

There is a 3D competition..it's colled TOC :D

At our club's last funfly. One event was do X,Y and Z and land as close to 60 seconds as possible. So I do x, y, and z and to burn the time, I put on a little show for the spectators (which was a low harrier). The CD's assistant shot me a look faster then a blender. :D I just chuckled, powered out of it and landed. at 62 seconds.

Have to disagree, 3D there are what 9 maneuver's, with knowns and unknowns, now you have to do something beside those 9 moves, which at the end you find the best all around.
Combining all together makes for a great free style.
Once you have the basics down, you should advance.

I can do all of them :) Whos to say you cant combine the moves go from blender to upright flatspin to harrier to hover at 5 ft off the ground ( I havent tried this, its just a suggestion). My point is there should be an all out 3D freestyle competition for those interested. We currently have freestyle competitions which are growing and thats a good thing. But even the most outrageous 3D one yet (the one at DOD) includes too much IMAC. ALL of the pilots that entered were OUTSTANDING but I feel that in a few categories (especially one of the categories) that the better 3D pilot didnt win.

Ya Ive seen some of the pilots, at the XFC fly alot, yes they are good at 3D, and don,t get me wrong I like 3D, but it really gets old after a while with the same moves, down on the deck, or up in the clouds.
They are limiting there great talent to just a few moves, by not perfecting the rest of it.
To many 13 14 year old kids with great talent, stuck on those few moves, if given the right direction, could go on to be great pilots.
Providing one want to be the best he can be or just says he is.
Once someone gets a few of the 3D moves down seems like they go threw this big EGO thing, maybe after being humbled a few times there EGO,s come into check again.
Its never to late to learn the rest of it.
Ive heard some of them say we knew we couldn,t win,
Why enter?
Freestyle contest for 9 moves with combination of the 9
Or freestyle contest with unlimited moves with combination
of all.

I agree that too many people are stuck on 3D only. Many of them can torque roll but never dream of doing a rolling circle with one roll per circle or a rolling cuban 8. HOWEVER these type of people do exist and 3D is in. If there is any growth in flying right now it would have to be in the 3D sector. I understand where your coming from saying that there are a lot harder things to do out there than 3D and I agree with that. BUT I think if a well known club hosted an open 3D championship you would see an overwhelming response b/c thats the type of flying that is the most popular right now.

Why have a contest?

Why not just make it a meeting of like minded individuals who enjoy flyn the same way.

Like I mentioned in my first post, we had an event in Houston that encouraged low level 3D flyn and hovering.

No trophies, just 30 people from all around the U.S. showed and it was a wonderful show. We are going to have another one in Houston, sometime in March 2004.

Houston Hoverfest 2004.

We have a raffle, food, pilot prizes and spectators are always welcome.

Making a true contest, who would judge? Only logical answer would be the spectators, pure WOW factor.

If you want to give out trophies, then give out "Best of Show", "Pilots Choice" maybe "Best Trick". We may be able take some clues from the X-Games here.

We did not do it at Houston, however I understand it's going to happen at Nashville, is Pool Dipping. Take a kiddy pool out, fill it with water and touch you tail in it. Not a contest, just a challenge.

It would be great to start having 3D fun flys. There are Warbird only events, Jet only events, Heli only events, Scale only events, YNOT 3D only events.

I am a huge supporter of this idea. I put on the Houston show and would be more than happy to help anyone organize an event in their area.

That sounds like fun. Too bad I could never convince the old geezers at my club to sponsor such an event :D
