Vectorflight 3d capability
 

I've read up on the vectorflight planes, and hear nothing but rave reviews. Sorta makes me suspicious, but mabye it is possible to have such a great plane. However, none of the posts give a direct answer to their 3d ability. I've read it has a very responsive elevator, but that is all. I dont care too much which one I get, just let me know what you used. SO:

If you can get hold of a back issue of english mag Aviation Moddeller Feb 2000 some clever Kunte has a freeplan of a 3D model which shows how to swivel the engine creating 'VECTROR THRUST', boy did this baby fly. I wounder if any of you stateside buddies built this baby. was thinking tho.. have a look at the Spad X-box.. looks like a giggle and is kinda vectored thrust

No I'm afraid Vectorflight is a company that makes planes, not thrust vectoring. Thanks anyways tho.

ahhhh and they have a rep for being a bit good at 3D?
i'm finding out the scale planes arnt the best at 3D, limits of what full size can do and what scale imatates.

only reason i say scale is a i saw in a search a referance to a edge 540

if the posts on RCU are saying their all that and a bag of chips then that is about as much as you need to know.

When your engine can move a little on normal plane in normal flight it would give distinct manourvoourability, on a 3D model it is phenomol, yet it is so much easier !. The reason being for example prophanging- the rudder is req'd to keep fus level, this rudder is countereracting torque of a FIXWD engine with fixed sidethrust ! with swivelling engine we ave 2 massive benefits. Firstly the side thrust changes with the direction you want it to so there is quicker more positive pull in the direction ya want. Secondly yav not got you trying ta do one thing + the plane trying ta do anotter. Another example is knife edge , because the engine is now angled up less rudder is req'd which means less rudder deflection or less speed, equals less power, equals less noise longer flights using less fuel ! but best of all for us 3D's very , very slow knife edge possible- looks unreal, even slower than sebastino Silvestri- and thats slow! Yes Philly it was called DIEHARD a hotdogging bi plane.

anyways, we've now found out this isn't about vectored thrust planes.

The 66 inch Edge 540 is much more of a pattern plane than a 3D one, even when given a lot of power.

Having said that, mine is about as pitch sensitive as any plane I have ever flown, and since that's an important factor in 3Ding maybe they would do some 3D maneuvers if built light enough.

I don't think they were designed for high alpha flying, but I could be wrong.

They are beautiful fliers though!

The current crop of VF planes are definitley not for 3D. Things like solid balsa tail surfaces and thin airfoils make them great aerobatic airplanes, but take them out of contention as a 3D model.

Apparently they are designing a new Extra though that will be larger than the current offering, with some customer feedback, perhaps they could figure some 3D antics into the plans...
