Engine decision for Laser 3D
I am having a hard time deciding what to do. I've read that the 46 fx may not be enough engine for the laser. I have one that I would like to put on it, could anyone tell me that would work. If not that, than what about the magnum 52 4 stroke. It weighs in at just under 1 lb, which is 2 oz. heavier than the fx. Would it have it? Thanks

RE: Engine decision for Laser 3D
The 46 will fly the plane well, if it is built light. A buddy of mine flew one with a OS 50 and it ROCKED!
Don't do the Mag 52 stroker, not the same power as the 46 you already have. |

I agree with YNOT. O.S. .50 SX will work well. If you spring for the Ultrathrust muffler, it will be awesome!

If going four stroke you really need a 70 size one to get the power you need. EG Saito 72.

I agree with sprink. While a .50 fourstroke will 3D the plane fine a .72 would be awesome. Mine has a saito .72 and it hovers just two clicks over 1/4 throttle. It is built very light (too light at first). It has since gained 1/4lbs for strengthening.

Mine hovers at about 5 clicks under full throttle. Not quite enough for my liking.
The question you should ask is how much money can you spend on an engine for it? The absolute best is a YS 63. If that's out of your price range, the Magnum .52 will do nicely and at around half the cost of a .50 SX. |
