Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
Hey you guys I'm thinking about getting the 60 size extra 300 from seagull. I will be running it with a saito 91S. If anyone has this plane, I would appreciate some feedback. Thanks!

RE: <span class=
A very nice and easy plane to fly. mine is powered by an Irvine 61 and this give the model unlimited verticl performace.
I guess with the saito 91 the model will do the same. nothing wrong with the kit apart from the small 8Oz tank suppied wich is really to small this is eayly replaced with a 12 Oz this gives me 15 Min's |
RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
I just opened the box at my local hobby shop. This is a nice plane for the money. It's got pinned hinges, fiberglass cowl and for less than 150 it's a steal for a 60. I'm waiting till after the holidays for mine. I was going to put a MVVS 77 in it.

RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
I have also my new Extra 300S from Seagull Model, very nice and i put the MVVS 49. Do You know where is The CG from de fuse side ? In the manual saids 4 cn from the wing tip, but I have a very heave tail, and I don´t know if this is correct. I read that some people have the CG 10.3 cm from the leading edge in the fuse side.

RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
hey Luizinho
my extra needs alot of nose weight think i got 40z so far. yours very snappy.mine still snaps out with like a 1/2 of throw. think still need more weight in the nose. i cg 4cm from tip how about yours. looking for ssome that has a perfect setup for cg and throws.mine has ag90 supertiger with everything in the front and going to put a 120z tank.... |
RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
Well, I change my mind. I install and old O.S. FRS 60 and is flying a Little of heave tail. This weekend I will try to put son weight to the nose, to see what happens.
|
RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
Yesterday I flew my Extra with this O.S. 60. My tail still to heavy. It need a lot of weight to balance it. Should I use weight or shoul I change the engine ?
|
RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
if you have a 90 laying around i would change to that,
i have a g90 and still needed wieght. |
RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
my brother just bought the seagull 300. i fly the Cap. it looks nice and clean. he is putting the os 61 on it. at the LHS the owner said that the 61 should give it unlimited vert. i will post it as fact or fiction after is see it. (it is the 60 size arf)

RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
it is a very smooth flying model. watch out though! it is hotter then a friggin oven on landings and tough to slow down. Just set up for a long approach and you will be good. I have had many flight in my friends until he crashed it. watch out, with a dead engine it can be a lead sled. if you get a flameout get that nose down!!! it is a pretty heavy plane and will tip stall fairly quickly. Thats how this one met its demise, engine died and he had no where to turn because he was at the end of the field on take off. But it is a very pretty and nice flying model, also it is very well built and i was impressed with it, and it only cost 129.99. He has a new one in the works because he liked it so much.

Did your brother added weight to the nose ? I just balance mine adding 12 Oz of weight to the nose, I thing is to much weight. Will it fly well ? What happens if the engines turn off ? |
RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
did you not read my previous post? i just told you what happens when the engine flames out. yes this plane needs alot of nose weight to balance right. if the engine turns off you dont have many options. pretty much keep the nose down and avoid turning if you can.

Thank You ifixairplanes:
I am not English speaking native. I did not understand " Engine Flames out". So, I must have a very good engine, so the engine will not "Flames Out" and my plane will be safe. If I change the supply push road that are made from aluminum ? Don't you think that those push rods are heavy ? |
RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
ok, flameout meens the enigne dies, stops running, turns off, no longer turns, dead stick. Any engine can die on you, there is no engine that is dead stick proof. I am not sure about the pushrods. We kept the aluminium in there and never had a problem. It may be a good idea to replace them because they could be a potential source for radio interference. You may also save some weight by removing them.

RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
ifixairplanes : Thank You I will do that. The ruder is Easy, I will replace with a Pull-Pull system, but how can I do with the elevator ? Uses two servos. Can I replace them with a nylonPush roads ?
|
RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
i would keep the duel servos on the elevator, just use the nylon pushrods instead of what it came with. having 2 servos on the elevator is good for backup, if one fails you will still have pitch control and be able to land safely. good luck, lets see some pictures if you have a camera!

Thank for you help ifixairplanes. I am from Asuncion Paraguay in South America.

RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
looks good. have you had a chance to fly it yet??? looks like it was ready to go at the field. just remember to take it up high and fly it very slow so you can get a feel for its low speed characteristics and how it reacts to a stall.

RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
Yes I flew it that day, but it was to difficult to take control, because of the heavy tail. This weekend (If is not to cool) I will try with the weight on the nose.

RE: Seagull Models' s Extra 300S
Hey luizinho, great plane you own , its a fun flyer very responsive.as for the weight issue the most i added to mine with a 61 os on it was 4 oz stick the weight as far forward as possible even if it means adding ca and mounting it on the motor mount, dont make the same mistake i made an add it under the fuel tank.it does absolutely nothing but add weight when you install it there.heres a pick of mine www.midmad.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=7148[/link] HEY SCOOBIE

Hi SENZA, thank you. Yours looks great also. Look my pictures where I added weight. I you have any other idea, please let me know. Under the engine is an Car Bushing and the up side of the engine are fishing weights. All together are 12 Oz. of weight.
