UCD from Great Planes(the new small one) or H-9 fUNTANA. I also practice a lot on a Real Flight sim. I am also building a Spad to the Bone. It can be built for $20. It uses a .40-.50 and standard servos. It's supposed to be easy to hover and hard to tear up.

I find the U-Can-Do series very easy to hover, ez'r than any of the other 3D planes I have flown. It has such a long moment, it's almost too easy to hover. The Big one is really made for a 91 four stroke, however it would rock on the 46 size UCD.

tailspnr 09-25-2003 01:39 PM

RE: easiest plane to hover

You wont get a UCD to hang on the prop with a 90 fourstroker. I just flew a UCD two days ago with a OS90FX and it barely hovered at WOT. I have not been impressed with the UCD at all. And I persosonally find it extremely difficult to hold vertical for some reason. If it starts to fall off it takes ALOT or rudder or elev to bring it back.

My opinion would be to loose the anti profile attitude and get one for learning 3D. I have been able to learn more 3D with my Sledge in the past month than I was able to in a year with other various planes.

But just my .02 cents worth,

Scott

ucando is the easiest plane to hover - it hovers even on a 61/2s fact. and on spec cg. after setup mods good power and the right prop it just walls and hovers/tr for hours.

Sorry, but not true, if it wouldnt hover with the 90 2 stroke that motor is shot. Here is vid of one hovering EASILY on a 91 saito

Tailspnr, I am talking about the .40 size UCD. It will hover at 1/2 power with a .91.

RE: easiest plane to hover

THE easiest plane to hover is a spad. The spa3d or the qhor will hover with much ease. I built my dad one of these and he could never hold a hover for more than 10 sec. With this plane he comes down the runway in a harrier, pops it into a hover, tail slides down for a tail touch and goes back up for a torque roll. He went from not being able to hover to doing all of this on the 5th flight.

If you want a balsa model a UCD will fit the bill.

SPA3D and PBF. Theyare a piece of cake and once you get the hang, youll be able to hover a PBF with left hand only.

I have to agree, the .60 size UCD will hover with a .91 four stroke!!I had a well used OS.91 on mine and it would hover all day long with an APC 15-4W.We now have the .46 UCD with a Saito 100.The UCD's are not my favorite planes, but the .91FS does work well on them,I would put that .91 on a .46,though.You could sell that .91,get a 1.60FX,and an AW 80" Profile Extra and be in 3D training heaven!!!Well worth the extra $$

PQHOR now called spad 3D is the easiest

I have the big UCD and the spad 3D and there is no comparison. You can TR the spad at 3 ft, put it into the ground, start it back up then try again. Try that with the UCD :D

The UCD would be my second choice.

RE: easiest plane to hover

Uh...The PQhor and Spa3d are different airplanes. Very simular in design however the spa3d has a totally flat wing where as the pqhor has some camber in the wing. There is also some difference in where the holes are cut into the coro for the wing to be mounted. There is indeed a difference in performace. The Pqhor harriers and hovers easier than the spa3d, but the spa3d will flat spin, roll, do some basic IMAC better than the pqhor (this is not to say that the spa3d will not hover or harrier b/c its still very good at it).

JohnVH 09-26-2003 09:05 PM

RE: easiest plane to hover

IMO my spa3d hovered better than my qhor, both having the .75 magnum on them. Dont know why, my qhor did better blenders. To me both the qhor and spa3d handled very close to eachother performance wise, so its a toss up to which is better.

i agree with yall on the spads but i don't want to put a saito 90 an a spad
i'm looking more for a wood plane
don't get me wrong spads are great but i just can't

Anyone have a link to company that makes this spa3D plane? I have not heard of it before and I am curious since a lot of you guys seem to like it.

The Excite .90 will fly fine with the engine you have I am hovering mine with a .61 2 stroke.

The spa3d is a coroplast plane you build yourself.Checkout the spad forum here on RCU,there is a link to a site that has all type of "SPADS" you can build for about $10.00 ea.You really need to fly one to appreciate them, the're pretty cool and lotsalotsa fun.

My Hangar 9 Ultimate is the easiest hovering airplane I've flown.. but it's not for everyone.. hehe. Costs a bit more than the 3D SPAD airplanes.

i wood go with the people that said spad 3d as it sounds that your are not real experenced with 3d yet these are the best thing since sliced bread they are easier to hover than any plane out there i have both ucan dos funtana freestile suduction and they are tuff and you can look on ebay and get one for about 20 dollors

RE: easiest plane to hover

Yes, the Ohio Model Planes Yak 54 90 size is extremely easy to hover. Just like it's brothers the Edge 540 funfly and the Giant Scale Edge Profile, these planes were designed to be extremely stable in all the 3d manuevers. With a .91 OS motor these planes will hover at 1/2 throttle.

be carefull with Model Tech, I have a giles 202 and the balsa is extremly soft. I had to add flying wires to the stab because it broke 2 times on both sides. The plane is a bit heavy too.
