3DHS 72" Edge 330SC engine mounting
 

I bought a 3D Hobby Shop Edge 330SC about 2 years ago and finally got around to building it. I ran into something that just doesn't look right. I have a DLE35RE that I want to mount on it. The drill template puts one of the spacers very close to the edge of the firewall. I don't know if it just is what it is, or if the alignment marks on the firewall are in the wrong place. If anyone has this plane/engine combo please let me know if yours is like this. Here is a picture.

that's way too much engine for it, that's why the mounts are going to be maxxed out. Id seriously get another plane or find a more suitable powerplant.

that motor hauls the AW Extra of 80 inch span like a foamy

The 35cc is within the specified engine size stated by 3DHS but the airframe is very light. It won't need a 35 but it is what I have. I think now they say you can use up to a 38cc engine. Throttle management will be very important. Full throttle will have to be a rare occurrence for sure.

not sure why they list it as an option, its a bad combo, it wont fly well, that 72 inch plane is quite small. will a 20 inch prop even clear without using big tires or taller gear?

You can make it all work, its just not an ideal combo for high performance pilots.

just went on their site, and sure enough they are flying it with a 30cc and 20 inch prop, it does have a 1000 squares, which is more than the older 72 inch models found in the past from other vendors. the 35 is a boost in power over the 30 though.
is the cowl all going to work with hub distance etc? might be a lot of shoe horning to fit it in.

It will fit. The cowl is big. I found another forum with huge thread on this plane. A number of pilots with this combo told me what to do. I have to cut down a washer and grind down the side of one stand off a little. They love the plane and the engine so I will give it a try.

maybe pin the firewall after mounting it all. good luck with it and post some progress here.

The motor is on. Had to remove a little triangle stock, grind a washer edge, and the side of one stud just slightly. Looks good.

shes in there, the 20 inch prop should work as others and electrics use it, likely have to use a rear rudder servo for balance, using a canister or supplied pitts?

I'm going to use a Vess 19A prop and have a B&B smoke muffler on order.

nice to see some new action on RCU, most know other boards are more active, but RCU still has some followers.

Would that possibly be an Extra330SC? I have one with a PTE36 and also a 71" Slick with a PTE36. Good combinations with the larger motors. Vertical is unlimited and throttle management is important as was said earlier. I have a Mezlik 19-8 prop on my Slick and a Vess 19-8 wood on my Extra.

I saw a clever way to grind away the triangle stock on the inside where you would put your washer. You use a flat Robart Carbide tool for your Dremel. You feed the shank of the tool thru the engine mounting hole in the firewall from inside the plane and chuck it up. You can then grind a flat place for the washer to go for your engine bolt.

likely an extra 330 as an edge with that number is unheard of as far as I know.
