My Diablotin Super is ready to fly. I'm just waiting on weather (light winds). Ready to fly weight is 59.4 oz. with 935sq in wing area. I made a few changes for strenght, and controlability. It is set up as follows. HP.40 with Macs header, and mousse can muffler. Four Hitec hs225's, and a hs81 for throttle 720ma nimh and hitec super slim receiver. I started out with a Expert rf650 receiver, but the range check wasn't good, so I went with the heavier Hitec. The control is from a JR 8103. I have a Nolimit 3D that weighs 5.33lbs with a ST.51, and about 90 more sq in wing area. With the lighter weight the Diablotin should be a hoot to fly, and I hope to find out soon. Tom

First flight

The weather was nice today, so I slipped out the door at work for a quick couple flights. The engine wasn't running quite right, but it still had plenty of power for vertical accelleration. It would hover at about 1/4 to 1/3 throttle, and it felt very stable. Loops were very tight, and if it was slowed down it would flip from upright to inverted or back with just a blip of the throttle. Rolls seemed a little slow, but I had it slowed down most of the time. I think climbing spins will work once I figure the amount of throws needed to keep it from flipping over. I think it is going to be a good airplane for close in 3D work. I hope to have some pictures soon. Tom

D Super
Thanks for the report. I'm using the same servos and battery in my Laser 3D, and a YS 63 for power. Should be ready in two weeks or so.

servos
In my Nolimit I used standard servos except for rudder, and I used a Hitec 605 there. The Nolimit is closer to the Laser 3D than the Diablotin Super. Tom

Oh...I have an HS-77 for the rudder.
How do you like the Nolimit? I almost bought a Diablotin Super, but then I saw the thread on the Seduction and I picked up the YS and a Pizzaz for now. Someday I'd like a Seduction with the YS in it. The jury is still out on the Pizzaz. It's a heavy little airplane. Mine came in at 4 ounces over 5 pounds. I have an Irvine .53 on it. Great motor, by the way! The Super looks good. And you're under 4 pounds! WOW! I think the Laser 3D is overbuilt in some areas and underbuilt in others. I hope to come in at 4.5 pounds with a few mods. I'd really like the Diablotin XL for my ZDZ 40! We've got wet snow and it's cold & windy today, so I'm heading to the shop to finish the Laser 3D fuselage. |

antispad- We have rain here in Coon Rapids this morning. Yesterday I was home sick from school and it would have been a perfect day to go fly. Not a cloud in the sky and it was nearly dead calm.

Nolimit 3D
The Nolimit is a nice airplane. I had the kit for almost nine months before I built it. When I ordered the kit the Laser 3D was not out yet. With the ST.51 it has planty of power, even at 5.33 lbs.. I think the Diblotin Super at 1.6 lbs less weight is going to be a better performer. The only thing is it may not hold up as well due to its light structure. Time will tell. Tom

There is also Diablotin Super FG.
This model will take up to .90-1.2 4-stroke engine. It has gel-coated fiberglass fuselage. It's my favorit. Wing area: 925 sq.in. Empty weight: 53 oz. |
Where to purchase the Diablotin?
Where's the best place to buy one of these?
Did you get yours at your lhs? What's the best price going? Thanks David |

Diablotin Super
I picked mine up from Esprit Models, as it is not an item the local hobby shop would have. I chose the Super for the extreme light weight. I put a couple more flights on it this evening, and I'm liking it more with each flight. One of my mods was to add a piece of 1/4 inch balsa to the aileron hinge line to double bevel it for more control throw. I'm glad I did this because at slow speed the roll rate is kind of slow. Tom

Another perspective. I fly Diablotin std with Irvine 72 and Apc 14x4W. This is a nice combo but very different from the Super. Diablotin Std weights close to 3kg. It is easy to hover, and is a very good allround performer. Perhaps little heavy compared to Laser 3D. If you want, you can also fly it in a semi-pattern style -- fast and smooth.
Does any have experience with the Diabolic?? |
