Elevator Travel
Just curious how much travel some of you are putting on the elevator.I am looking at full 3D deflections. Is 45 degrees enough for full harrier or waterfall? I realize CG plays a factor here, just wondered if there is a standard or personal preferrance.I watched a large 540 the other day.while taxieng I noticed his throws were 60-70 degrees.

RE: Elevator Travel
Yep, 45 should be enough depending on what airplane it is and how tail heavy you have it. I would say that 65 degrees is the perfect amount. If you have ever seen Quiques throwage all I can say is WOW!

RE: Elevator Travel
i like all i can get. and sometimes that still isnt enough. but it takes about 70 deg. to do 3D IMO.

I like mine between 50 and 60% on the elavator. It doesn't seem to make any difference with more throw then that from what i've seen.

Ok thanks guys.
I'll step it up some more, testfly and then play with the CG. |

I like all I can get too but it doesnt have to have 70 degrees of deflection. It all depends on what plane we are talking about and where the C.G. is located. I can do extreme 3D with my laser3d at 45 degrees deflection all day long b/c of the super aft C.G. |
RE: Elevator Travel
I personally have never had luck with throws of more than 45 degrees. On my H9 Edge I had about 60 degrees. This would ause it to wing rock in a harrier. If i removed elevator after starting the move it would level out and lock into a harrier. After I reduced my throw to about 45 degrees or so I can do a perfect harrier at almost full up elevator so that is one less thing to worry about. Also if you think about it, it seems as though if you put more that 45 degrees then you would just be putting a brake back there. I mean if youmade the elevator go 90 degrees to the stab, you would just be slowing the plane down, Im sure you would get some pitch change but not much. I dont know. Its just me and i may be way off base here but if you think about it it kinda makes sense doesn't it. Oh well.

RE: Elevator Travel
Flew it today again,more testing.... (Funtana,91 Surpass,15x4w)
50 degrees is all I can get on the elevator, not enough gap to deflect more. Moved battery to most rearward point. Starting to do waterfall spins inverted nice, but not flat(nose down) Wont Harrier, but is wanting to Needs down elevator for inverted Fairly violent right wing stall, when mushing around the sky, will check lateral balance Will now move the cg some more... |
