How to do a Knife Edge Spin?

How do you enter and maintain a knife edge spin where the plane is rotating around the main wings as the axis? I've only been able to do this by accident out of an inverted flat spin but would like to know how to do it on command. Thanks for any help.

If you have reflex mix a wingtip spin is really easy. Reflex is when the ailerons are mixed with the elevater to move in the same direction.

On a down line roll to either direction then pop in opposite rudder and full down. You may need to add throttle to get it to rotate. This could also put you in an inverted flat spin. Just add more throttle and it should go into a wingtip spin.

You will have to experiment using different stick combos and timing. I have only given you a base as different models will do this differently. This is how i have been doing the KE spin with my Seduction Freestyle, the thing will spin in positions that don't seem to be possible. Don't give up and keep trying?

What model do you have? Some one might be able to tell you how they were able to do the KE spin with that model.

Thanks Shadpwspring for your comments. I am flying a 35% Wild Hare Extra 330 with a DA 100. I will try your entry technique and let you know. I've also wondered if entering from a 45 degree upline, then rolling to a knife edge while lowering the throttle until it starts to fall, then going to full throttle with full down elevator would do the trick. Your thoughts?

RE: How to do a Knife Edge Spin?

With my freestyle I can take an waterfall directly to a knife edge spin just by using a little aileron to push it on there on its side. It is not a true knife edge spin, but I think it almost looks better as the plane will loose little if any altitude. Not as tight as the KE spin. More like an waterfall on its side that just hangs there. I think i'll have to give it a name if already doesn't have one. I'm sure there is some kind of name for it.
