Extreme Flight
I saw the smaller yak do a demo this weekend. The airplane was flown by Chris himself at a flyin here in GA. I never got a chance to go over and talk to him but the plane sure looked good and did some amazing stuff. I had seen most of the stuff he did in the movie on the website but he also added this funky super high speed mind blowing tumble. He went from full throttle on a horizontal line into a tumble which quickly became a blur and then flew out of it like he had never left the orginal flight path. Made me wish that I didnt already have too many irons in the fire b/c I would have been grabbing this thing up as soon as it came out.

RE: Extreme Flight
thanks for the info Layne, im in line to get one as well when they come out :)
What you got in mind for an engine? Im thinking either Saito 100 or a US 110 if I can afford it ;) matt |
RE: Extreme Flight
Which field is this and when is hte next demo?

RE: Extreme Flight
Not a demo but,,
I am going to be doing a bunch of flying with Chris in the begining of November. LOTS of pics and videos will follow. |
RE: Extreme Flight
I wonder what the 411 is on the extra arrivals?

RE: Extreme Flight
Layne, I wish you would have come over and said hello, I would have been glad to give you a turn at the sticks. Guys, if you are ever at a show I attend, please come by and get some stick time. This is the main reason I attend these shows.
BTW, if you have never attended a fly-in at Mac Hodges place, you owe it to yourself to do so. Definitely one of the best flying sites in the country, and a host of very hospitable folks. |
RE: Extreme Flight
Oh man!! Now I am gonna kick myself in the tail for a week or two :) Im sure I will see you sometime down the road at another event, maybe then you will have the Bigger Yak with you or maybe even the 41% Extra ( I wonder if you will let people fly those). Are you guys comming to the GAMA swap meet in Perry GA in March (I think its in march anyway)?
|
RE: Extreme Flight
Yes we will attend the Perry swap meet and we are scheduled to fly demos there as well. The invitiation to fly my aircraft includes all of them. I was hoping to have the 87" Yak ready to bring to Mac's fly-in, but didn't get finished with the maintenance I was performing in time. After several hundred flights I decided to remove some of the covering and inspect the airframe for any stress induced failures. Glad to say everything was in order (except I had to replace the wheel pants). Just ran out of time to get everything re-covered and re-installed. Will definitely demo it at Pery. Hope to meet you there.

RE: Extreme Flight
You guys need to make it to the "Extreme" aerobatics fly-in here in Mobile, AL on the 7-8 of Nov. We have 30 confirmed GS birds already. We have been holding these Extreme 3D fly ins here for several years. They are always fantastic events.
If you want to get information about it you can go to Blaine Austin's site www.blaineaustin.com We are only 300 miles from Atlanta and you can bring your family to the beach at the same time, Gulf Shores (1 hour away) or Dauphin Island (20 minutes away). We would enjoy your company. Bean |
RE: Extreme Flight
:) Cant wait
|
RE: Extreme Flight
This may sound like a dumb question but how does the Yak fly compared with a Sukhoi? Also could you use one of the smaller gas engines or would that be too heavy?
|
RE: Extreme Flight
Chris...
Better have that 68 " Yak ready for when Wayne is here.... I am looking forward to flying that beast.......can't wait to get my own.... Pugs |
RE: Extreme Flight
Pugs, we don't have to wait for Wayne. Give me a call and we'll go fly it one afternoon this week. I'll have the 87" Yak flying again by tomorrow afternoon so we can fly them both. You've got to check out the new GMA field as well. I think Kevin is coming out with his new CA 40% Yak Thursday. You should join us.
The 68" Yak is really too small for a gasser. It is designed for an engine in the 26-30 oz range. The 87" Yak is the one for a gas engine. |

My friend took a picture of the Yak at the fly in. The quality of the picture was good (probably still is but I had to adjust the size and stuff). The quality of the airplane, well that speaks for its self.

RE: Extreme Flight
Pugs, we don't have to wait for Wayne. Our weather is turning to sh*t and you guys are just getting into the good season. I'll see you guys in a couple weeks. |

I live down the same way (not too far from where the fly in was) look at the picture above and notice how green the grass still is here in late October :) |
RE: Extreme Flight

RE: Extreme Flight
Common Chris... Bully a few more planes out of China.
Actually, I appreciate the dedication to your product, but I need to see the 65 inch Extra come to life. I have a YS 91 FZ, and the 65 inch Extra sure looks good. If those are still in the void of delay you described a while ago, I may switch to the Proflie Edge and try to trade my YS for a Saito 100. I understand that the Saito balances well, and the YS may be difficult to balance to to the 28 ounce weight. Keep us up to date! |
RE: Extreme Flight
Yep... I'm still having to use my sunblock here. 80 and sunny today

RE: Extreme Flight
Mine will get the 3M 1.40......sweet.....

RE: Extreme Flight
Are the profile edges available yet? I have a saito 100 waiting for it. I was going to wait for the little yak and put the saito in it but I have DA 50 Iam going to put in the 87" yak so I decided not to wait for both yaks.
|
RE: Extreme Flight
Any plans on making a 100cc or 150cc size yak?
How would the little one be with a satio 150? Extreme, or not so extreme? Thanks ! Rob |
RE: Extreme Flight
Regarding the 60" Edge and 65" Extra, they are in limbo. I am having a lot of trouble with this manufacturer. He won't return my calls or emails, and I'm really starting to worry. He has a LOT of my money. He promised these aircraft would ship by September 10th but nothing has shipped yet. Looks like I may have to take legal action.
The Saito 1.50 and 3M Mintor 1.40 should be great choices for the 68" Yak. With the Y.S. 1.10 I have the battery mounted inside the engine box to achieve proper balance. Should be easy to balance with these other engines by mounting the battery pack under the canopy. We have the first prototype of a 107" Yak for 100cc engines. Should be ready to fly in a week or so. I'll post some photos and a flight report soon. Hope to have it flying by the time Wayne comes down. |
