Laser 3d and TT 46.?
 

Right now I'm building my laser 3d and I know that this plane perform the best with a ys or saito 4 stroke but I already own a TT 46 with tuned pipe and don't want to spend 200+ on a new engine for the plane because I have other proyects coming.

Do you think this engine/pipe combo will fly it ok for 3d , I'm planning on building it as light as possible.

A pipe?? Remind me to bring earplugs ;)

I have a .46 FX on mine with a dry weight of 5 LBS. To put it bluntly, it's not enough. The pipe may mitigate that a bit. I'm planning on swapping ou the OS muffler for a mousse can. If that doesn't work, I'll but a Magnum .52. Good engines I hear.

If you want it to hover, that 46 will do nicely. If you want to win vertical drag races, buy a new engine.

I scratch built a laser 3D few months back, its hope less with OS 46, my friend has GSM 75 on his Laser, it does good hovers and verticals. But still we don't have enough juice to bring it to decend in hover or to accelerate verticaly if one is in bad attitude. Planing to put up a Surpass II 91 in mine............lets see how it works. Will send you the pics.

YS .63 is THE best Laser 3D engine in existance. If I could afford one, I'd have one. But alas I cannot and don't :(

That's what I think too ys 63 but I only have one glow plane that is a fun fly normally and the laser 3d is replacing my magic that still alive but has been used and abused and I want something new, but I don't want to spend that amount of money on a glow engine if I can spend it on my GS planes.

Maybe I'll end buying one:eek:

Love mine with a Saito 72 and APC 14/4 prop. (much better plane than I am a pilot)

I have and fly that combo and it does great, Andrew Jesky always wants me to bring it with me when we compete, he loves flying it, and can do anything with it, using stock muffler and 12.25X3.75 prop, setup spoilers at about 45 degrees for harriers and have fun.

i have seen laser being flown with 2 stroke 75. i think 4 stroke 91 would be lighter yet it should swing an APC 15/6 with ease. i still believe you should have enough juice up front to get out of trouble the instant you give it gas!!

It'd swing a 15x6 suntil it his the ground and becomes a 13x6. Not much ground clearance. A 12 inch is about max...

Build it stock but build it light. Dont throw on a ton of glue, use the lightest wheels you can find, dont put in a pilot figure, maybe run a mini or micro servo on the throttle, use a smaller batterypack or maybe even a Li-ion or Li-poly pack, make your own tail wheel asmb. and dont add any useless weight and you should come out alright. If you keep it 5lbs or under the .46 will pull it just fine. I have the model sport video right here beside me with the Laser3D and a .46 O.S. on a tower tuned pipe doing a really good job of pulling the airplane around.

4 stroke .91 on a Laser3D??? OVERKILL!! Mine hovers at 1/3 throttle with the saito .72 swinging a 13X6 master airscrew.

A Lipoly is kinda overkill ona plane this small. I built myself a 700MAH 5-cell pack out of NiMH AAAs from Wall-Mart. It comes in at 2 ounces and I get 3 flights on it. Not much flight time, but it's cheap and light.

3 flights with no ability to quickcharge. IMO that sucks. Once you get the Laser3D all trimmed out right you are gonna want to fly it more than 3 times. When I first got mine I would fly it 6-7 times everytime I went out to fly

I have the Laser with a Saito 72 and it hovers at a bit over half stick which is more like 3/4 throttle. I don't know about hovering at 1/3 throttle............must have some weird expo in the throttle setting.

My brother has the same plane with a Saito 91 and it is a bit overkill but not too much. We both have an alternate set of landing gear to cope with the ground clearance needed.

I think a 46 will not hover it satisfactorily. In any case, you will probably have minimal power to pull out. I don't know how much your pipe will add though.

Whatever you choose, please think about replacing the stock motor mount. It WILL start to pull from the firewall after some time without some sort of reinforcement.

Nope, no weird expo at all, in fact the throttle is set up for quite a linear response. I just built the airplane light. It comes in under 4.5lbs and does everything that I want it to do. My only beef with the Laser3D is that its not as precise with its 3D work as I would like it to be but anybody should be able to draw that from looking at the design. The airplane will do every 3D move in the book with the right person at the controls. Some stuff it does better and cleaner than others but I have by no means outgrown it yet :)

No quickcharge??? I zap mine up at 2.3 amps.. takes about 10 minutes.

Hey Everyone,
I am repowering my Laser 3D after ripping the nose off in a bad crash[X(]. I had an Enya 50CX in it, but power was marginal. It barely had power to hover. I want pull-out-of-a-hover power. I'm looking at the OS 61 FX. Is this too much motor? I don't want to spend more than $170 for the motor if i can avoid it. Thanks.
