I too am looking at planes for a DA50. Wildhare and Extremeflight make some you could look at. I have put my name on Chip Hydes list for a Double Vision. We will also be purchasing a Dave Patricks Edge 540T for my girlfriend. Have not decided if we will use a DA 50 on that or maybe just a ZDZ40. Good luck with yous search.

What kind of plane you looking for? 3D funfly, scale aerobatic? I just received my new DA50-R yesterday, what an absolutely gorgeous piece of machinery. I am picking up a DiablotinXL tomorrow or Saturday for this engine. I had one before, but with a zdz40 in the nose. The DA50 is lighter and stronger, it will be a 3D blast. I am also getting the WildHare 28%Edge540T, and I am getting one of the new mvvs58i engines for that plane; the engine should arrive early next week. For a 3D plane, the new DV looks great, and at same price as Esprit charges for a DiablotinXL. I am getting my DiablotinXL kinda locally (120 miles) at a good price and without the $70.00 shipping fee. I have attached a picture of the DiablotinXL I had earlier this year - I sold it.

i heard the Diaboltin XL were realy weak and break easy. Joe Hunt told me so...whas ur opinion?

RE: PLANE FOR DA50R

Only thing that broke for me was the top of the rudder. I think I was doing some bit fast knife edge, and the top just folded over. I insserted a carbon rod and glued kevlar tape to the outside. The fuse held up well, didn't have any joints come unglued, and I did do harrier landings with mine. The new one will have a large (taller) composite under carriage, since I'll be swinging a 24x8 prop after break in of engine. Also, stock gear put the plane pretty flat, and it needed some ground speed to get in the air - I want it to just jump in the air.
I spent time and energy double bevelling the rudder and elevators on my first one, but I'd like to hear opinions on whether beyond 40-45 degrees of throw is actually beneficial.

Were you looking for a Kit or an ARF?

AS a Kit I would go with a Midwest Cap. GREAT combo with the DA 50. I had one until someone walked up with his checkbook and wrote a check an put it in his car. I wil have to build another one day.

If you are not an kit builder the Extream flight Yak looks like it is worth a look see.

I've also got a diablotin XL, but I have a ZG-62 on it. This engine is realy shaking the plane in pieces. Wich prop (size+brand!) do you guys use to fly 3d?? What engine? Thanks,
Paul

RE: PLANE FOR DA50R

I don't think the DiablotinXL is built too light. When I had mine with the zdz40 on it, I would swing a 20x10 or 22x8. I did not have problems with vibrations, I also made harier landings without damage to the plane. I G62 in the nose will make this plane super nose heavy, and alot of weight will need to be added to the tail. With my 40 I had 4 servos in the tail, and with radio gear mounted per instructions, it was nose heavy. I cut a hatch in the fuse under the canopy, reached back in the fuse as far as I could, and mounted my Rx battery to the floor, the Rx was just below the pilot, and it still did not exhibit extreme tail heavy ness. I just lost my second DiablotinXL/DA50R combo on its second flight due to complete lock out, but I am getting a third, also for my DA50R/header/KS can engine. I just use one HS5945 on each eileron and elevator, and the new one will have two HS5645 on rudder.
Tthe do need a taller main gear though, especially with a 24" prop that I will swing on the DA50R.

a friend at my field has a g.p. patty wagstaff with a da 50, flies great and fairly cheap; and not much difference in glide than the 2 moki powered ones here.

She sure does. In fact we had a break in the weather today and both got in a few flights.
We may be getting the DA 50 for the Edge. I haven't real made up my mind yet.
