Which Freestyler???
Hi,
I am about ready to buy a Freestyler, but I am having trouble picking. I would like a Funtana, which I could build myself. It is also relatively cheap. But, i could get a Majestic, or an Excellence, or a Cyclone, etc.. aswell, with all the hard bits built by probuild. They are alot more expensive, (as I would need them half built.) so I would have to save up a little more. But they are said to fly alot better. I would want something VERY 3D/Freestyle capable, AA capable, and do some schedules too. Any ideas one what I should do? Thanks, Robert. |
Naturally, I'm going to recommend the Majestic.

As I own one, I think it is downright awesome. It 3Ds and patterns and freestyles like nothing else in it's class. Try the new 1.60FI if you have the budget...an incredible running motor, or the new YS DZ. Me, I'm running the OS1.40RX and have all the vertical performance I can ask for.
However to stuff it, I can tell you you won't be disappointed. Mark It really 3Ds well... |
Which Freestyler???
I already have a 140L so that will be going into whatever I choose. Do you work for ZN?
|
Which Freestyler???
Mark! I LOVE that scheme on your plane!! Could we get some more pics?? Maybe of the radio and motor instalations too?
I really like that plane.. Thanks chris |
I'll get some detailed photos out here.
Chris,
I do have an excellent digital camera and will get some detailed photos in the next week or so. Robert, The 1.40L was the original intent and will work just fine. ...and yes, I must admit I do work with ZN. However, of my personal honor, I choose to offer my services because of the high regard I have for the company, their products, and the two partners. |
Which Freestyler???
Mark, do you know what options are available for the Majestic? (Radio tray, skinned wings, etc.)
Chris, look at www.cplr.com.fr This is Christophes page, and he has some pics of his plane. Robert. |
Options available!

Robert,
The full line of options is available for the Majestic. This includes CF gear and wheel pants (included in the delux kit), honeycomb Nomex CF servo tray (NOT included in the delux kit, extra option), Kevlar/CF fuselage, and sheeted wings (contest grade sheeting, the same we use on our own wings) with pre-cut (routed) ailerons and elevators. All that is left to cut on the control surfaces is a couple of inches that is not routed, sand even with the routed area and face them. The wings can be finished up in a decent work day or two. All wood is included (le, te, control facings, formers, tips...etc.). Of course, for a fee, ZN will provide an airplane painted and covered, completely ready for the installation of your equipment. A ZN finished airplane is truly a work of art (nicer than many of the airplanes that compete at the worlds). It takes 6-10 months to deliver a finished product and is not an inexpensive project, however, it must be seen to be believed. I know of one owner of a ZN finished airplane who looked at his new toy everyday for 6 months before deciding to fly it and make it "used". I hope this information helps. Please feel free to ask questions regarding any of the ZNLine airplanes. Sincerely, Mark Novack |
I'd say something from PL Prod...
Robert,
That new Cyclone from Pl Prod looks very nice. I'm not sure how it would do 3D, but the pattern version does real nice. The Excellence is a contest proven if you are one that likes to see how something performs before you make a commitment. Quique Somenzini, said that it is one of the better freestyle planes that he has flown. Now a question for Mark... Are you using an Asano pipe on your Majestic? I have one on my pattern plane and I love it. Also, how long is the waiting list for the Synergy or the Enigma. They both look like great planes. |
Waiting lists.
Ryan,
I will have to get back to you on that one. I ordered an Enigma a week ago and am hoping to see it within a month. The Synergy is also being produced quite often. At this time, though, waits are shorter than they will be for the beginning of building season (orders for building season come en masse in August-November and have up to six month waits). A guess would be 6 weeks at this time upon deposit for the newer series. (three TOC Extra will soon be delivered to Desert Aircraft, but they will probably be sold within days). For the pipe, I am using the Asano. The only problem I have is that sometimes I cannot tell if the motor is running (that, my friends, is quiet). Now, if you want something REALLY quiet, try the new OS1.40EFI with the ES Composites medium sized pipe. An easy half of the noise footprint of the Yamada using the same pipe. JP is using that combo in his first Hydeaway and frankly, I a little jealous of the way it runs and sounds. Mark |
Which Freestyler???
What version of the Excellence were you talking about Ryan?
Does anyone know if there is a new kit like this coming out soon (September around). If there isn't, I will probably go for a Majestic or an Excellence. I will have the luck of being able to fly someones brand spanking new majestic in a couple of months, so I'll see how she handles. Isn't that right Shane!! As for the pattern ship I would also like to get, that too is open for debate. My current thoughts are Probuild Shadow, Evolis, Hydeaway, Smaragdz or Partner. Do you know anything about the Partner yet Ryan? Thanks for all the input guys. Robert. |
Which Freestyler???
At the Joe Nall Quique said that he was developing a new AA aircraft called a Fiesta. I think he said it would be available through PL Products. Fiber Classics also had a beautiful new pattern ship with 3D wings and stabs available.

Ditto on the FC one.....
I bought one at the Nall. It is called a Widebody 60/90 they will also come out with a 120 sometime. The kit is laser cut and the foam, other than the turtle deck is sheeted. There is no hardware to throw out and the cowl is fiberglass. The instructions are really crappy but shouldn't be a problem. It looks like a .60 version if Quiqui's Excellence. I would recommend this kit to anyone. I'll give more info after the build.....

Which Freestyler???
Marcello Colombo. His site is on the thread about the wing strenthening. Hows your Edge Chris?
Robert. |
Which Freestyler???
Ohh, makes sense now..I didn't think fiberclassics make a wood plane..

Which Freestyler???
Hey Robert,
The Excellence that I was referring to was the Excellence IAM, the same that Quique flew in the first AA contest and the IAM. I am not sure if it is also called the Excellece Z, because I know that he had input in both airplanes. I have seen him practice with it many times and it is a great flyer. If I were you, and if you didn't already have that YS to go in your plane, I would go with the Webra 1.45 Aero-X. I have a Webra in my Hydeout, and the performance is awesome. If I am correct, it puts out very close to or more than 4 hp., and when coupled with a 9-10 pound pattern plane, provides for some interesting performance. It also is very well behaved and I have not had any problems with it on downlines and the like. I have heard that two-strokes are bad about that, but it hasn't missed a beat. I have an Asano pipe and header with mine, and it is very quiet. It is also the cheapest and lightest dedicated pattern engine, weighing in at only 28 ounces. WHEW! Getting back on track (sorry about going off on that tangent, just throwing out ideas), I haven't heard any more about the Partner than you probably have. I have just seen the page with the pics of the fuse on the PL website. I will talk to Quique, and when and if he gets one (which he likely will) I will be glad to share my experiences about the plane with you. As an afterthought, if anyone would be interesed, Quique is designing an "AA" plane. I can't remember what it is called, but it is a highly modified version of his earlier design that was kitteed by Aeroworks for a while called the Freedom 3D. It is going to be made by MK, and it looks very similar to a skinny fused Excellence. I think Quique said that the optimal engine would be a 1.20 4-stroke or a .91+ 2-stroke. One of the people that knows him that lives around here is building one, so I'll try and get more information on that as well. Boy, my fingers are hurting now. :( |
Which Freestyler???
Robert,
Perhaps you did like to wait till after Romilly? There is an AA competition ongoing now, Czech World GP, and in Romilly, there should some new and interesting designs to choose from! Perhaps if you are free, Tournoi de Champagne at Romilly would be a great event to attend....I for one wish I could go...... |
Which Freestyler???
Hi Derek,
I wish I could go to Romilly, but its bang in the middle of the last week of school!!!!! :disappoin |
Which Freestyler???
HI again,
I have just heard from someone, that the Funtana flies totally different to a Majestic, alot more 3D he says. This is in the end of the day, what I am looking for. What difference would aero-foiling the stab make? Would it be worth it? Thanks, Robert. |
funtana

for kick around 3d, Every since i saw a flyer fly that funtana at a fly in i have been hooked on that baby! The things has barn door ailerons and the wing is on a tube, its built lite like the sig cap with just toothpicks. The one i saw had a rcs 1.4 with a 18 x 6 prop and it just locked in the elevator and the pretties rolling elevators, rolling harriers, and waterfalls. It was very around 10-15 MPH wind when this flyer was doing his thing. The designed of the kit told me it really locks in for t/rolls here are some consturction pics i have found:
http://www.team-rebel.org/funtana/ http://www.sebastianosilvestri.com/ If you get one keep me posted mine should be arriving here in another week or two. |
Who makes the Funtana?
I have a question for those of you who are knowlegable about the subject:
Who makes the Funtana? I know that PL Prod makes a 2m Katana S that Sebastiano Silvestri designed, but are these the same plane? Thanks. P.S.: Mark, that picture of Mr. Yamada's Synergy was BEAUTIFUL!! They really do exquisite finish work. Also, that picture of that you posted with all of the ZN pattern planes is so beautiful, it is my wallpaper on my desktop. :D |
