How do I balance laterally?

I recently added 1 oz to the wing tip of my morris knife to balance it laterally. WOW what a difference hovering

I balanced the plane by placing the engine shaft on a level surface and put my finger tip on the center of the bottom, rear fuse adding weight to the tip until it balanced.

I noticed the side OPPOSITE the muffler was the heavy side becasue the engine shaft was not in the center of the plane but offset to the right i.e. more plane was to the left of the engine shaft.

Question:

Should I use the shaft (thrust line) to balance the plane or should I use the center of the fuse?

Thanks

lateral balance

Unless the left and right wing are of different lengths/shape, you need to balance to the center of the fuselage.

How do I balance laterally?

Would I balance the plane differently for flying vs. hovering??

It seems to me during a hover the plane is hanging from the prop and if the prop is not in the middle of the plane I should balance with respect to the prop not the center of the plane? Right?

I am not sure how to think about the balance in flight, with respect to the plane's center or the thrustlines center?
