Well, one thing's for sure...this hobby is timeless. Judging by the replys here it doesn't matter if you're 11 or 82 (our oldest club member), or anywhere in between. I'm thinking the attraction is the same across the board. When you have the aviation bug, you're afflicted for life :).

Chuck
And what's really good about the wide range of ages is that there is a continuing market for new products, which is what it takes for the hobby to continue to progress - really glad to see kids are stiill wanting to fly airplanes!! :D

I've been on earth 14 years,
I've been living 2 years now.
Started with a superstar, went on to a Dazzler, and I'm now looking for a Magic Extra 300L...

I'm 32 years old, wait, 31....no, 33... gimme just a minute... yeah, 32. Sheesh, had a brain fart for a second there. I've been flying R/C for around four years now. Learnd to fly in about a week or so, and was ready for anything after that. I love all types of flying, from combat to 3D, to speed, and everything inbetween. I only have about seven planes or so, anything from Spads to Warbirds, and I wish I had room for more, but I don't. I'm V.P. of our club and have to say that it's a wonderful hobby! Just wish my Dad would have let me have a plane earlier in my life.

Ha, that's how I've felt buying computers for the last 15 yrs :D. But that's the nature of progress, it's a two-edged sword. If this kind of thing wasn't going on we'd still be building our radios like Jim Sweeney mentioned above [X(]. I have the strange feeling that we're in a period of bigtime growth too, so I'd expect our stuff to fall off the cutting edge even more quickly as time goes on. That's actually a good thing. I learned that lesson with computers and it's the reason I have such a sweet machine today (even though it's no longer on the cutting edge). Don't fail to enjoy what you have, it'll drive ya nuts.

17, been flying 11 years and been actively 3Ding for 1 year now. I'd list my planes but I doubt I could do that in one day... but I currently am setting up a Wild Hare 28% edge for my main ship while I build up a H9 33% cap. Currently I bum flights off of my IMAC partner's planes and fly my fathers UCD while I get my edge off the bench.

A cert is a basic but safe level of flying and the B cert is just to show a higher level of control of the model and also to allow show flying and comp flying i got my A and B first time. Good fun. I love 3D wouldn't fly any other way now.

I'm 60. Started RC in 1970 to design and build a plane to take a 16mm movie camera (7.5lbs) to do aerial filming of wildlife for the BBC. Had a long layoff and started again 5 years ago. Current best planes are a Synergy 90 (OS 91 FX), Giles 40 size 3D (OS 52 FS) and a Freestyle (British made ARC) (YS 53). Love 3D and pattern.

just turned 16, been flying 2 years but can only go once a fortnight, i'm onto the 3D stuff now and getting very good with that. Also tried some 3D with my powered glider too, but could only do the hovering stuff in 15mph+ winds ;), tell u what though, catching the bloody thing on landing aint half an addrenaline rush!! :)

I'm 30 and built my first trainer when I was 16. Got out for a few years, but got back into it and started flying helis. Then I raced 1/8 scale cars, and all the while I have been flying planes. Been trying to fly 3D as I like that the best.

28, Started flying when I was 12, started meeting girls and was totally out of the hobby by 18 (chicks dont really dig guys who rarely come out of the basement; and when they do have CA stains all over their hands and shorts). Got back in at 21 and since my workshop was still at my parents, I had to leave my stuff there; and thats where she ran over my pattern ship with her lexus; stopped again so I got back out and at 26 got back in and still like the pattern stuff, but this 3D stuff rules!

I think there is a pattern of people who are really into RC in their early teens and then after college get back into it.

39 years old and started flying 3 years ago.
Living in Florida has allowed me to fly every Saturday and Sunday since I started and plenty of weekdays too.
You could call me a freestyle junkie!
