Cermark Pitts into Christen Eagle
I was thinking of buying a Cermark Pitts ARC and convert it into a Christen Eagle
I know they are almost the same bipes, so I was wondering if anybody would notice the difference once the feather scheme is on the Pitts. Are there any major differences that have to be considered, adapted ? Please don't tell me to go out and buy the GSP Eagle. I had one of their planes and was not satisfied at all :( Thanks |
Eagle
I like your idea a lot! I had a Cermark Pitts..... it is a great flying plane!
I've always liked the looks of a Christen Eagle better though. I'm not sure of the differences myself, but will be interested to hear what others have to say. Have you found some Eagle graphics that would be the right size for this plane yet? I may just copy your idea if you don't mind. I even have an engine sitting here that I could use on it. How much is the ARC version? Jim |
Cermark Pitts into Christen Eagle
I would not mind at all ! I do not own a Cermark Model, but have heard so many good things about them that I would like to try them out. I also think that the Eagle looks so much better. That is the main reason I came up with this idea. I think that maybe Model Graphics at www.model-graphics.com could cut me a Feather graphic set. I am pretty sure they would (would probably run around $150). The ARC costs $250 according to the Cermark website.
What would be your engine choice ? I was thinking of a OS 300 twin. |
Differences with the Christen Eagle
I believe the main difference is the Christen Eagle is a two-place plane (like the Pitts S2B), has a different cowl, and different landing gear (looks like flairing on the top of the gear). I was thinking the same thing when I saw the price of the Cermark ARC. Anyone make an aftermarket cowl and canopy? In my opinion, the Christen Eagle is the best looking aerobatic plane of all time.
Best of luck Stuka! Let us know how you made out. |
Cermark Pitts into Christen Eagle
JU87-Stuka, Wow! An OS 300 twin, I thought I might be overdoing it with a YS 160 4-stroke (that is not a typo, I have one of six YS 160 engine prototypes).
On my other Cermark Pitts, I had a YS 140L, and that made for pretty good performance. I think OnTheEdge is right about the cowl and landing gear, although I know that the Eagle comes in both a one place and a two place canopy version. The landing gear might be fairly easy to replace, but finding a cowl could be difficult. Jim |

Hey guys,
Everyone is right about the cowl (fairly significant difference through the cowl 'cheeks') the gear and the fairings above the gear struts. I have had a few Eagles (Byrons) and currently have a Byron Pitts so I have seen them in large scale and up close. I do like the idea and have heard good things about the cermark Pitts! Good luck! |

We have 200hp Lycoming AEIO-360, constant speed propellor, and a 19.5 foot wingspan. Very much a motorcycle-of-the-sky" heres the sebino Christian Eagle http://www.usaction.be/Modelisme/mod-sebino.htm and heres a pic of my pilot christian eagle |

I think that Sebino is Italian(?)
Check out www.ripmax.com I don't think that they have info on the kit on the site, so your best bet would be to ring or e-mail them. Sorry for the delay in replying. Robert. |

Cermark Pitts into Christen Eagle
Yes yes yes......
Thanks Robert, that would be great ! |
Cermark Pitts into Christen Eagle
I think the key differences are the tail surfaces (more straight lines on an Eagle), landing gear, coweling, and wheelpants. That's about it ;)

Cermark Pitts into Christen Eagle
Sebino by the way, are Italian. Just found out.

Cermark Pitts into Christen Eagle
I think the main part of the conversion would be the cowling. I have been talking with Steve at Fiberglass Specialties. He has several Christen Eagle cowls that he sells. He needs a tracing of the firewall with thrust line indicated and length to thrust washer on engine to see if any of his cowls would work.
I did not want to buy a Cermark Pitts unless I knew the conversion was possible. Can anyone out there help with a tracing of the firewall with thrust line indicated? Do any of you have or know someone who has a Cermark Pitts and would be kind enough to provide this to us? Thanks, Jim |

I bought one on the 4-sale section of this forum. It should be here soon. When it arives I'll get the info that you need.

For those interested, it looks like Fiberglass specialties has a Christen Eagle cowl that would work on the Cermark pitts. It is a Cowl he makes for the Tom Keeling Christen Eagle. He also sells wheel pants and cuffs for this Eagle.
I am not going to be pursueing the conversion project because God has smiled on me and I am now the proud owner of a Pilot 1/3.7 scale Christen Eagle. I found one that has been sitting for about 5 years at a house about 2 miles away from me. It has some minor damage to the landing gear, vertical fin, and firewall, but will be an easy repair job. I will be recovering the plane also. I would like to know if anyone does this conversion though and I'd like to see pics of the completed project. Regards, Jim |
RE: Cermark Pitts into Christen Eagle
I am interested in this conversion project as I have also been wanting to do this for sometime. I own a Dave Patrick .40 size ultimate but just love the Christen Eagle scheme. Just a thought, but perhaps the Skyshark RC Christen Eagle would also be a good choice. The price is the same as the Cermark kit at $349. Funny enough Tower Hobbies is now selling the Great Planes Christen Eagle for $349 as well.

RE: Cermark Pitts into Christen Eagle
I guess you didn't notice that this thread is almost 3 years old. There are Christen Eagle's available now that weren't available then.
