Katana 120 replacement
 

I am looking for the replacement of my Katana 120, it was an older version, and had been modified alot, I may purchase a new one
but I am looking for some input from RCU members, I want to use a OS1.60FX

I wish I lived nearer to you. I love rebuilding wrecks and I'd but that carcass off of you in a heartbeat.

OS 61FX... first of all you should know that I hate that engine. Its a great, reliable engine that puts out far too little power and has the same problem with cylnder liners wearing out that the entire FX series suffers from.

That aside i doubt you want to buy an new engine so I would have to suggest either a hype or a flip 3D. Either of these two would do well when paired up with the OS61FX... not as brilliantly as they would with a 72 saito 4stroke but well enough.

I'll buy the carcass from you if you'll sell it cheap. I cope up to Baton Rouge every once in a while(relatives). How much do you want for it? What will you do with your new plane? Do you fly imac, 3D, putter around... what? The Dave Patrick Ultimate is an awesome all around flyer, and with your 1.60fx, it's an unbeatable match.(short of a Saito 180:D). How did you find that Katana?

I've had a new one sitting in the workshop for ages, I fitted a YS 140 but it seems massively tail heavy if the destructions are correct.

Where was the c of g on yours? good 3Der????

If you have the Creek Katana (the yellow one) you may be correct in your belief that it is tail heavy. I don't know the reason for that because I don't have that one. I have the GSP/JET/Chief Katana (the white one with the checks) and it is not tail heavy.
Judging from the various Katana forum threads it appears that the Creek Katana starts off lighter but ends up heavier than the GSP/JET/Chief Katana with all that required lead weight in the nose. Even with heavy gassers they seem to need lead. I had nightmares about lead while I was assembling my Katana but it turned out that I didn't need any.
The CG fell on the aft limit recommended by the manufacturer. The engine is an OS 160.
You may find that 3 heavy servos mounted in the tail may be partly responsible for tail heaviness in some models. People often purchase more servo power than the need for the application and wind up with those heavy $100 digital metal gear servos.

Rocketman....yeah 3 servos in the arse end doesnt help. Maybe I can put the rudder servo nearer the c of g on a push/pull and loose a bit of tail weight.

Seems they really thought this one out. [:'(]
