MOKI 2.1 RELIABILITY??????

Hey all, wanted to get your inputs on MOKI 2.1 motors. I recall many years ago, i heard on run and loved the sound it put out. I hate 2 strokes, but it being so large, it had a throaty sound to it. Are they as good with reliability as they are with sounds? Was planning on a GP Patty, and one of those tree pullers up front! Thanks, NIck

Mine is 2 1/2 years old and probably has twenty gallons through it. No problems, starts easy, and doesn't die on me. Very reliable engine

Have both 1.8 and 2.1 Moki's. No problems at all. My 1.8 is 8 years old. Easy to set up and runs reliably. Likes wet starts if you flip it backwards. Kicks like a mule if you flick it forward when wet!!!!! Beware! Very powerful motor.

I have 3 Moki. Two of the 180 and one of the 210. My next motor will be a Moki. Great motor. Easy starts, smooooooooth running, lots of power.

Only down side is long break in time. Think in terms of several gallons. I think this is just a sign of good quality in the manufacture of this motor.

they are great engines in the long run but they can be a pain in the butt to break in i had one on my H9 EDGE 540 and it dead sticked during break in many times.

Same here. I have a MOKI 2.10 on a H9 80" cap. No problems at all so far. Very reliable. The only time mined deadsticked was when I had the high end setting too lean. I have about 5-6 gallons through it, so I guess it is still breaking in. Nontheless, very powerful motor and will go nicely with the Patty Wagstaff. Its also cheaper to run than most big glow engines. I use 0% nitro which only costs 6.50 per
gallon at our LHS.

Love my big Moki. It's in it's third plane now. Starts easy with a flip, runs great, transitions flawlessly and puts out great power.

What is the high end needle vavle setting that you guys are using on your MOKI 2.1

Pantherflyr,

If you get the MOKI 2.10 be sure and get the cline regulator if you want to do 3D with it. Mine deadsticked while pulling into a hover.
Since I put the cline on her, she idles and runs better than ever, and I don't have to worry about it leaning when the plane is vertical.

Columbo,

Did you send your carb to Cline have it drilled out?

Make sure you put a cline on it or you will have problems. I have around 100 flights on my 210 with cline and no deadsticks. Its the best engine I have ever owned.

My choice for powering anything up to thirty pounds. With 200+ flights, no Cline, no flameouts, runs like a top. They are critical with fuel line diameter and oil per centages...JIM

Brian,

No, he told me the newer version of Mokis don't need the carb drilled out.

Mitchpittsman,

Mine never tried to quit until I started doing 3D with it. It ran fine during normal flying. But for those who do 3D, especially hovers, a cline is strongly recommended. The muffler pressure just doen't seem to be enough in certain 3D maneuvers.

RE: MOKI 2.1 RELIABILITY??????

How is it going Randy?

I've put 4 flights on my DP extra so far. The last two I tried some 3D maneuvers. It is a nice flying plane, but so far it hasn't lived up to my H9 80" cap. The cap seems much more stable in certain maneuvers than the extra, esepcially the harrier. I get a lot of wing rock with the extra. I am in the process of tweeking it as far as throws, trim and C.G.. Right now my C.G. is at 6 1/4 back from the leading edge.

RE: MOKI 2.1 RELIABILITY??????

Yea and it looked so stable on those videos of zaks. He was using spoilerons on some stuff I know. I am going to try spoilerons to see if that stops it from wing rocking during harriers and snaping on walls. Its still a good plane those are the only 2 problems I have had. Going to try to pick up a menz for it tommorow at Toledo.

Have fun at the Toledo show. Try not to empty the bank :)!
