I've had two. Crashed the first one when I accidently crossed the ailerons. I posted some place on them. Long story short: construction-wise one was awesome, the other was crap! As stated above, it is Lanier, you takes your chances.

As to flying, the plane is awesome, one of the widest flight envelopes I have seen, pattern to 3D, slow to fast. The plane is not for a beginner. I have a YS63 in mine. Weighs 4.5 pounds. I have limited 3D ability, but I think this plane will do anything anybody would want it to. It's control surfaces are huge and so are it's high rate throws. Nuff said.

But it is a dual-purpose plane, and seems to do both very well. Actually it could use triple rates on elevator and rudder if you know what I mean. [:-]

Bellcrank is a good idea but the one on the Razor is a POS and allows quite a bit of slop in the elevator linkage due to a sloppy fit. Fuselage pivots cause quite a bit of friction. Ball bearings would have been nice. Will have to keep an eye on this and possibly go with two elevator servos.

ditto the bellcrank being ****. In theory it's a good idea, but EVERYTHING Lanier makes is cheap crap. you can get a MK from Central Hobbies for about $35. Depending on your engine and balance a couple of mini servos might be good.

I will give you one other warning. you can take it for what it's worth. I will never again order any Lanier plane through the mail. Their QA is the worst I have ever seen. Of two planes and one wing I got from them; one plane and the wing were damaged (not in shipping) and other stuff was absolute crap (cracked sheeting, separating plywood, etc). You got about a 50% chance of getting a good plane from them.

I know a guy that had a lanier razor and the bellcrank was rock solid.

the bell crank was vary slopy on my plne so i cut it out and made a different set up with tree cntrol rods.

I began working on my Razor a few months ago, I had to make a lot of modications. I found the same as depicted in previous posts on this thread....The bellcrank had a lot of slop.
I found that the arm in the center of the shaft moved back and forth on the shaft a great deal. I tighthend the set pin but this did not help. I removed the set pin and tapped the center shaft for a screw. This solved the problem.

I also found the arms on the outside of the shaft going to the elevator horns to be to small. I replaced them with Hitec servo arms and also tapped the shaft with screws to hold them on. Seems to be working great so far.

I have finally completed this plane but have not flown it yet, should fly this weekend.

I will update my previous threads on this model sometime today or over the weekend.

By the way the plane came out 4-1/2 lbs.

I have this airplane. There is a trick to get the elevator bellcrank set up correctly to avoid the slop. What I did, was:
1. Put in the elevator servo, with the control arm.
2. Install the bellcrank with the pull pull cables attached.
3 Run the cables forward to the servo arm; slip the "crimp" over the cable.
4.Run it through the servo arm and pull it snug. Put the other end through the "crimp" and squeeze the "crimp".
5. Repeat with the other cable.
6. Trim the ends of the cable and remove the tape from the elevator.

My bellcrank assembly works like a charm.
Use some expo on high rates. The ailerons get "twitchy" without it. I'm using 45% on the ailerons, and 25% on the rudder and elevator. This is my third Lanier airplane. (Cap 232 80" kit, 30% Edge 540T, Razor) More than likely, if they come out with something else I like, I'll buy that too.

Hey I just got my Razor, The bell crank was sloppy so i got heavy duty horns for more throw and i opted to get hevy duty clevis's for the area around the evelvator. It works awesome. Oh, Yeah what the heck is up with the small ailerons. Im using a O.S 70 with a perry pump to power it. Another thing invest in a prcision servo for the elevator with a long arm for even more throw! Happy Flying

Ya..the tiny ailerons are a bit odd... That 70 should make it a schweeet combo.

You don't need to worry about the "small" ailerons. They will look at lot bigger when you get into a high rate roll[:-]. Keep in mind this was designed as a dual-use aircraft between Pattern and 3D. It does both relatively well. Just wish this plane was built by a company with a little better QC.

Correct me if Im wrong but didnt Lanier buy Goldberg and is now producing there planes? The Matrix I have is HEAVY at 6 lbs 6oz.

IT's BAAAAAKKKK... I have flown one of these and it is AWESOME, under 5lbs with a .46

Tower has them on the way.
