Venus or Aresti?
Hey there,
I am wanting a play around plane, and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with either of these planes. If anyone has experience with both, can you give me a comparison between the two, and basically, which one flys better. I have a Hydeout and I want something smaller so that I can play around, and if (read when) I goof up, it won't be too big of a setback. Thanks alot. |
Venus or Aresti?
Venus is more of an AMA pattern plane where the Aresti leans more toward the 3D style of flying. It depends what you mean by "play around plane".

Thanks basmntdweller.
What I meant as a play around plane is one that performs the pattern maneuvers good. I am not really interested in 3D at the moment, but it is something that I would like to explore when I get better at flying. Thanks again. |

How about the Kyosho Majestic? I have seen one of those fly well. If you want a kit, Seduction Freestyle or MY Alliance would be good.

I can recommend the Aresti. If you decide to get one, don't overpower it. The Aresti is lightly built and fast on an OS46fx. Also, RC Report has a very positive review of the Aresti with an OS46fx in the July 2002 issue.

Venus or Aresti?
I have an aresti, with a saito 72,, its a great flying plane,, but there is a few problems,, i am very nose heavy with the saito,, even though they recoment it,, it drops the nose in rolls.
also with the gear set so far back it has noseover tendencies, if the grass is not short as a golf green,, im not sure how to yet correct problem as i dont want to add weight,, its already really heavy for a small plane,, but overall its a blast, especially when i figure out how to correct the problems. |
Aresti
I have the Aresti and put a 46FX in the nose. The plane is noseheavy no matter what. To balance mine it was either cut a hatch and move the battery behind the servos or add 2 oz of lead to the tail. I chose the latter and have not had a problem. As far as 3D there is no easy way this plane could do maneuvers like this. At slow speeds the flight characteristics turn to crap despite what that article says in Model Airplane news. I think the Aresti is made to keep moving at a good rate and with how clean it is that's not hard. Also if you plan on doing tumbles and snaps with this plane I'd put flying wires on it. I think it and the Venus are best described as sport/pattern planes.

My Aresti balanced perfectly, but, I have several modifications. I am using pull-pull on the rudder with an extra servo mounted in the turtle deck. Also, I'm using flying wires on the tail. No nose over problems if you fly off pavement. When you look into this style of plane, realize that there is a difference between the "Stick" type constant chord and the pattern type double taper wing. The Aresti is not a constant chord fun fly slow flight design by nature. Acroman330, I know you realize this since you have a Hydeout, but someone else watching this forum may not.

From what I heard, both planes aren't great. Again, the Zens, Tai-Ji, stream 50, would all be good ARFs. I am sure if you ask your flying buddy, he would have designed a couple that are being kitted. I know that ZNLINE are making a 90 size Synergy 3D too, which would be a great choice. Good for knock around, sunday flying, as well as an entry in AA, and a practise F3A ship. What more could you want!!!
Hope this helps. Robert. |
Venus or Aresti?
Oops, sorry Acroman, I was thinking of the pizazz and comparing it to the Venus in my first post. I haven't flown the Aresti. But I'd guess it would be fairly similar to the Venus in flight. I agree with Robert on the Zens, Tai's etc but they aren't in the same price category as either the Venus or Aresti.

They are also alot better in quality.

Get the Zen
I recommend the Zen 50. The quality is unbelievable. I always get compliments at the field. They can't believe the covering job they think I did, and they are even more amazed when they find out it is an ARF. It does pattern VERY well. Very crisp, fast maneuvers, knife edge on the deck, etc. I got mine for $199 at my LHS.

Ryan,
I can personally recommend the Venus. Mine balanced with no extra weight using a TT .46 pro in the nose. It is a very light plane and the gear is in the proper place for a grass field. This plane will not allow for very hard landings though. If you are already flying pattern ships I think you will like this plane. Mark M. |

Hey Ryan,
I would be willing to part with my majestic if youre interested. I am looking for more of a dioblotin/freestyle plane to bang around. Give me a PM or email and we can chat about it. Steve |

Well Acroman, what'll it be????

Venus or Aresti?
Hey guys,
I e-mailed Steve regarding his Majestic. If that somehow falls through, I'm still looking at the Venus, but the Tai-Ji's sound good. I do wish that they had FG though. |

There Zens are fiberglass, and more modern I think. They are both ARTFS.

BTW, the zen 140 was used at the W/Cs in cork last year.
