G-Trick on 2-stroke (91)?
Hi All,
I know there's been some mention of someone trying a 2-stroke 91 in a G-Trick - is that an effective combination? Do you think a pump is required? I have flown my G-Trick a total of 4 times on my YS 91. I love the power, but hate the hassles of this particular engine (love my OS and Saito 4-strokes, tho!) For the sake of simplicity, I wanted to try a 2-stroker in the G-Trick. Have you heard of it and is it OK? I run a 14-8 prop on the YS 91 and reading the OS website it says it likes higher RPM's - around 10,500 with a 13-8. Any experiences with this? Thanks much in advance. Keep 'em flying, Scott |

Everyone has had complications with YSs, they all iron out after a while as you get used to them. I had the biggest YS.

swill,
I have a G-Trick that I have not started yet. I was thinking of using a YS 91 on it. What kind of trouble are you having and does it have enough power for extended vertical? I have a OS 1.60 2 stroke and it runs GREAT! If the OS .91 runs as good I would not hesitate putting it on my G-Trick. Eldon Texas |
G-Trick on 2-stroke (91)?
Hi guys,
I'm putting an OS .91FX in my G-Trick. As soon as I fly it I'll report on the results. I used all the stock mounting hardware - the softmount included - it did require some 'fitting'. I'm using a wrap around header made for the ST2300 - I had to drill and tap a new mounting hole (the front hole works fine). The tank is located right behind the engine so I'm just going to use muffler (pipe) pressure. The OS .91fx is pretty light (lighter than a YS 91FZ) so I'll be locating the battery as far forward as I can. I prefer not to add weight to balance (who does ;) I did consider putting an OS 1.60FX in it (it fits and you can get a wrap around header), but it seemed like overkill :D Hopefully, I'll have it airborn by the end of this month. -Will B. |
G-Trick on 2-stroke (91)?
Since getting into the hobby some 7 years ago, I've flown YS exclusively. I now have a few Moki's but I have accumulated 5 Ys engines. I continue to hear about difficulties and it kind a surprises me since I find them to be the most user friendly and powerful engines. I'm not lying when I say I have never had a ys flame out on my in all those years.
A few of the things that I've found to be necessary when running YS are as follows: 1) Don't touch the regulator - it should be flush with the case per the factory. 2) OS F plug 3) Rigid fuel tank - I had huge a wierd problems with flexible tanks. They just blow up like balloons 4) Adjust high end using a tach then back of 200 - 300 rpm. 5) Break in only by running one tank on the ground. More than this can cause the engine to over heat. 6) one low end is adjusted - adjust idle so that it hits 2000rpm. 7) 20/20 fuel Maybe I've been lucky but I have to say I really like these engines and think they are worth the extra money. I posted this to help and in no way to undermine the problems you have been experiencing. Mike |

Thanks for the YS tips. I do believe in every one of them. My problems with the 91 was with the 'around' idle adjustments. I ensured my throttle connections were rigid, with ball links on both ends to ensure smooth operation.
It would either idle really high or really, really low then quit. There was no in between. I haven't touched the regulator screw or the carb opening amount since it was new (and running good initially). Replaced all fuel lines. I know YS are great engines. Personally, I like OS and Saito for everyday 4-strokes. I just want to fly more and tinker with engines less. I'm curious to see a flight report with the 91 FX or similar, so I look forward to it Will! I assume you are putting a pipe on it? That's the other thing I was worried about - i already moved two elevator servos to the tail! THAT doesn't help if I get a 91FX. thanks for all the replies. |
