HYPE 3D ENGINE

Hi i have a hype that i am building at the minute and was wondering what engines you guys have used and with what success??? Cheers Lee.

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

west 50 is the ideal engine.

other than that, os 50sx, irvine 53, ys 63

miskin 03-20-2004 03:56 AM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

west .50T1 thats what ive got:D..i did have a OS50 but it would struggle out of a hover[:o]

my friend has a irvine 53 in his hype but the west .50T1 out performs this easy;)

cabanestrut2002 03-20-2004 07:25 AM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

i am surprised at the performance of the os, but there you go, i guess the west is something special!

Ian.W 03-20-2004 12:25 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

If im right in thinking, the hype is lighter than a flip, and my West just powers it around. Brilliant engine

CougarRules 03-20-2004 01:35 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

Seems that everyone raves about the weston, before you guys posted i was definately considering a 4 stroke but i have now decided to get the weston what size prop are you guys using???

Cheers Lee.

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

12.25x3.75 is the perfect West 50/Hype combo

3DManic 03-20-2004 02:35 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

It has to be the west .50 it is the best 2-stroker in its class

cabanestrut2002 03-20-2004 02:57 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

considering a 4 stroke

that would be a shame!

just say NO to four strokes

Ian.W 03-20-2004 03:09 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

dan, you couldnt say no to a YS! lol

if i were you id usea 13x4 sport prop on the hype.

Cactus. 03-20-2004 04:29 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

carters. post up that page with reasons you shouldn't use 4 strokes.. i KNOW you will have it lol

Eddy, i could VERY easily say no to a YS £££££

dan, you couldnt say no to a YS! lol
no, youre right, if i ever got into fishing i could use one as a sinker-nice

Ian.W 03-20-2004 05:11 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

ive read that. YS= power, torque, reliability, lightweight and presence.

2 strokes, West: power, torque, reliability, lightweight

the rest: noisy, not as much torque turns smaller props.

If i was a pylon racer id use a 2T but im a 3Der and i want a west or a 4T

cabanestrut2002 03-20-2004 05:19 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

but they so heavy man!

Cactus. 03-20-2004 05:20 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

and 20% is expensive..
Malcom said to me that his YS 63 would spin up a 13x4W quicker than my West 50.....:D if i had a West 63 on 20% i think i'd spin up just a little bit faster ;)

Jealousy lads will get ya no-where....Join the force, get a YS! :D

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

Two of us in the club have hypes.

Mine has a west .50 and the hype pipe, my mates have an Irvine .53 and a hype pipe. Both on the same APC prop and the blue 10% pro synth fuel.

The west .50 gives about 600 rpm more and the pick up is far better.

Ian.W 03-21-2004 05:48 AM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

yup, thats a west your ya.

Carters, YSs are light, very light. And 20% fuel is cheep if you know were to get it. And think of all that loverly power instantly. Sometimes they spool up so fast the chuck the prop! just have to be a bit more carefull on the throttle like a good pilot.

bluepeppo 03-21-2004 05:58 AM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

YS63 all the way. I have 2. One in a Freetyle models Freestyle (Sigma Signs) and one oiled up in a bag in my building room. The latter was in an extreme lite until it was shot down [X(]:([sm=confused.gif][sm=punching.gif]. For the record I often run the engine on 10% with very little loss in performance and throttle response - so little that it still blows all the competiion away.
Get a YS.

Neil

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

4 strokers have got most of their power in the mid range but the 2 strokes power is at the top end of the revs

Ian.W 03-21-2004 02:16 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

neil:DONT use 10% i your YS. Someone i know did that and he had to pay over 90 quid to get it repaired due to damege caused by low nitro/castor fuel.

Cactus. 03-21-2004 02:31 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

Sometimes they spool up so fast the chuck the prop!
wow, what a great engine ;) i'll stick with my current power to weight ratio thanks :p

Ian.W 03-21-2004 02:37 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

notei say a good pilot will use his throttle well so it doesnt.o yeh, if you prop it right it also wont do that.

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

i let the ero hurt me now i cant afford a hype:D

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

I need an engine that will comfortably hover a 6 lb. plane without moving into a .60 size power plant. It seem as the West 50t1 is a hot ticket, will it handle this much weight comfortably?

Cactus. 03-22-2004 12:42 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

seams ok on my Capiche, but 6lbs hovering with pullout is pushing it... you'll be at 3/4 throttle, tho the new version has a bit more grunt again

CougarRules 03-22-2004 12:45 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

Oh i got one more question for you what fuel are you using in the west 50t the only fuel i use at the minute is Duraglo 5% But this may be a bit weak??? In fact could you guys tell me what fuel you would reccommend for a mgnum 36 in a cougar??? Would it throttle better with more nitro???

Cheers Guys.

Ian.W 03-22-2004 12:48 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

i use 10% fully synth and i can fault it. Nitro add a bit of power, throttling and makes needle changes less senseticve

Cactus. 03-22-2004 12:58 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

10% Prosynth in all my engines

miskin 03-22-2004 01:13 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

10% Prosynth in all my engines

thats what i use:D.... if im running low a 20minute drive down to alan at westons and im sorted and its always in stock:D unlike some of the models shops that i used to buy my fuel from[:o]

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

I used a saito 72. Down in Houston I saw a couple other hype's fly, ynot's with the west, another with the ys 63, and another i didn't get to see fly with a os 70. I'll tell you that any of those engines will be more then enough. As for 2s vs 4s, I'll gladly drop the money for another saito vs any 2 stroke in that class range, including the west. The best advice I can give is to talk to people in your club that have first hand experience, and if you can fly a 4s. Everyone has their own opinion, so fly what you like and can afford.

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

what is the biggest engine you all are running on the hype?

3DManic 03-23-2004 02:52 PM

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

I belive that the range of the engine is up to 50 in 2 stroke and 72 in for stroke. If you want a really good 2 stroke pick the west 50 of if you want a really good 4 stroke pick the YS 63. if you cant get the ys then i think that the sito has the best power to weight ratio out of all the 70 4 strokes. It really depends on what you want from the model if you want to prop hang and TR all day then you really need a 4 stroke because of the mid range power and because of the tourque. If you want to fly it around normally (what ever that is) then pick a 2 stroke. A lot of the engine choice is down to money i guess. If it was me then i would get the sito 72 because it is really nice engine. Also there is somthing about the sound of a 4 stroke in the prop hang, 2 strokes just always seem to sound as if they are stugling because all they do is scream.

Ian, bring'er down close to eye level and stare at the canopy (you know, like AFP). It's so much easier that way. Naturally, at first it's a little intimidating, but once you've done it a few times it just happens automatically.

I've accidentally hit myself a few times as well and now it's part of my routine:-]

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

Jonny, i can do this with my cogar really easy. im hoping to fly it on saturday and get some photos. Ive managed to trap my arial in the elevator, thats a bit frigtning wehn you have to pull up to get it out and then the plan pitched towards you [X(]. With my flip i just find it unstable when the hover isnt completly verticall. i cant get completly verticle hovers as its always too windy so i have to puch the nose down there fore making it really unstable. it deos very nice TRs tho, solid.

RE: HYPE 3D ENGINE

Saito 72 and you will be happy, better torque for 3D and 1 oz lighter than the ys at 16.5 oz's
with muffler. use a 14x4 zinger.

2 strokes are better for speed 4 strokes are better for 3D! I have a hype putting a Saito 100 on it, But I am a all out 3Der and these wing will easily handle the weight.
