What is 3D?
 

I'v heard it talked about loads an loads but i dont actually know what the definition of 3D flying actually is?Any pointers would b good, I fly a sig somethin' extra is this an appropriate model?

Technically, all flying is 3-D flying since it takes place in the X, Y, and Z axis.

As for the slang term, just do like they said above and will find several threads discussing it...

What P51 has said above is true, I think a rolling circle is 3D beleive it or not

I've heard it described as controled stall aerobatics too..don't remember where tho.

one way to describe 3D is that your plane is is in an attitude where your flying more on the engine than the wing, hovering, harrier, rolling harrier, high angle knife edge ETC

Yes that is true about the engine thing but for me that is only part of the definition.

Hell at the end of the day, 3D is fun!

Rolling circles aren't 3D... Rolling harrier circles are btu not the regular old easy ones.

10 years ago we didn't say 3D... we just said "wow that guy can hang it on the prop!" IMO 3D is a form of R/C ebonics... Slow aerobatics on the verge of or in complete stall... It is fun at times... There is one guy who flies a full scale edge 540 that will hover it after take off but to my knowledge few full scale aerobatic planes have the power... Can't remember his name though...

technically 3d isn't stalled. a stall is when airflow departs with smooth contact over the wing. a plane that is using the engine for 100% of the lift isn't stalled, since the airflow is zero.

I can't remember the guy yello and black edge 540... As to freestyle... Most aerobatic pilots when they are in contests have to follow a sequence which is drawn on paper of certain maneuvers that they have to fly... Freestyle means that they can take off and fly whatever they want...
