A friend of mine bought one of these used and does not have the instructions. Does anyone know what the recommended C.G for this plane is?.

I was told...

I'm in the same boat (no instructions, and bought it already built), and called DP and was told to put the CG 1" in front of the forward wing mount on the top of the fuse to start....

From the manual.

The balance range for the Ultimate is 1-1/2 to 1/2 from the leading edge of the rear cabane-without fuel. Start at 1-1/2 then slowly move back in small steps.

I have mine at 1 inch from the leading edge of the rear cabane. :D

I'm not yet sure where you mean....From where your CG location is now, I presume you mean 1-1/2 FORWARD of the leading edge of the rear cabane to start.....

Spock,
Does the manual say balance upside down on the lower wing? I'm in the same boat

The balance point is giving as I stated. I balanced mine on the top wing at 1 inch from the leading edge(in front) of the cabane. I could see no way to balance this plane on the bottom wing. At 1 inch it is real stable and requires a little down for inverted flight. Dave is always conservative in his balance points and I have seen this one flown with the CG even with the rear cabane.

This is one sweet airplane so enjoy.

The way I balance my Goldberg Ultimate is to find the stated point as a measurement from the leading edge of the bottom wing. Lets say 1.5" from the leading edge. I mark this spot on the side of the fuse, down close to the bottom wing. Flip it upside down and balance it at that point. I was hoping for a measurement on the DP Ultimate like the one I was used to with the Goldberg(i.e. x-amount from the leading edge of the bottom wing, balance upside down)

I am a little confused about the cabane measurement. Are you balancing 1" in front of the front support of the cabane? There are two points where the cabane attatches to the wing. I've flown tail heavy before for not too long.

The referance is to the rear attachment point.

edge_fanatic 07-01-2002 08:37 PM

more confusion

I thought you stated 1" from the leading edge of the rear cabane...That tells me that we need to take the front attachment point and move forward of that. However, now I'm understranding that you are meaning that we need the CG to be 1" forward of the rear attachment point of the rear cabane....

Any chance you'll quote the manual for us?

I'll try to get time to call DP.

Thanks!

I was confused at first when I read the manual. As I said I am 1inch from the leading edge of the rear cabane strut(Rear attachment point) I will measure the total from the leading edge of the wing to the balance point that I am currently set at.

Muchas Gracias!
