Hovering question
Hey!
I am testing a new Webra 120 out and I'm using a 18X6 prop. The problem is when ever I'm in a hover and I reduce the throttle a little bit (to make the plane lower itself), the plane looses too much power thus falls out from the hover. Should I be using some other prop such as a 17X7 or 16X8 ? I am capable of hovering but somehow this engine / prop combo just doesn't want to do things right :( Thanks a lot! |

A couple of points. What plane is it, and what is the wing loading? I ask this because the larger the power to weight the better. Spool up time and throttle curve come into play too. I'm not exactly sure about prop sizes for your setup but use the largest diameter and smallest pitch prop you can get away with. I say it that way because some planes simply flail around in the sky with too little pitch, but use the smallest pitch you can. Tailor the throttle curve somehow. In some radios you can alter the response with expo, and some have a throttle curve feature. Either way, try to get a click by click increase in rpm. It may take some carb fiddling to get it just right, but get it. Sometimes the difference between climbing and falling out of a hover is a click of throttle. What other planes or set ups have you successfully hovered with_bob
