U-CAN-DO servos
 

A couple of questions about saving costs on the UCD servos.

1) Does a person really need a 90 oz servo on the tail surface for average flying

2) Would it work to mount the elevator servo in the servo tray up front and use a split wire setup instead of two servos mounted in the tail section.

If mild sport flying is all you intend to do with the UCD3D, you could get by with standard ball bearing servos. I would not reccomend 3D flying or anything fast. Those are big surfaces and flutter is bad news!

This plane would come out nose heavy if you don't put the elevator and rudder servos in the tail. Just put the elevator servos in the tail. If you don't have a computer radio, use a reversing Y connector on the servos.

I use~ 65 oz in micro digitals on the elevators (DS368) and a mini digital on the rudder (ds9411, ~85 oz in).

I can do anything at any speed with this setup. High speed parachutes, KE walls, KE loops, etc. If you're a sport flier you
can get away with less. If you set up the airplane so that you only have sport throws (no 3D rates), you could get
away with very small servos.

Standard servos (the $13 ones that come with radios these days) all around will fly this plane just fine with sport throws.
