3D plane
What is the best 3D plane for my OS 46AX? I'd like to keep this engine, but if there is something bigger and better, i am willing to save my money (what i get anyways). Maybe an Extra 300L or Cap 232 or something.
Thanks |
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
a Flip is probably the best 3D plane in that size range.

RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
If you wanna use a .46 and have GOOD 3D perf. check out the modeltech magic. They fly best when built light.I have flown one that was HEAVY and one that was LIGHT and the light one performed 10x better.

RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
i read that the Twist (which i have ordered already and hope to get by Friday) flies better with a 46 than a Magic, plus the covering on the Magic is not sealed efficiently and can come off.
Just what i read........... |

RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
i think it would be a little underpowered with my engine and if i were to get a new engine, i would go much much bigger.
thanks anyways |
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
I have two ARF's that the 46FX can 3D and they are both 5 lbs. This one would be 5 lbs or less and would 3D great. It's probably the most stable ARF out there in it's size. It NOT a scale plane though. Scale planes are heavy for this engine. Keep it light.
http://www.extremeflightrc.com/produ...EdgeFunFly.htm BTW, I'd use an APC 12.25-3.75 or 11.5-4 for that 46AX if you want 3D thrust out of it. |
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
The Twist and the Magic are both good choices. The magic would be a better 3D plane, the Twist being a better overall performer. Another choice would be the Something Extra, but you would have to run a tuned pipe, like a Macs Muffler, for the rpm you will need. I've seen them perform well that way. It WILL shorten the lifespan of the engine. Maximum control travel will be required on all of your choices.

RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
I've flown those magics, they're junk IMO. Seriously, get a Flip. Might cost a little more, but you get what you pay for.

Jeremy..
Fair comment:), this is a fun part of the process..enjoy it ;) post up what you decide on ...cheers for now..Dave. |
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
Well here is a rundown of some of the more popular profiles around today. If you want to fly 3D then these are some of the best ones out there.
1. [link=http://morrishobbies.com]Sledge540[/link] 2. [link=http://Swanyshouse.com]Burrito[/link] 3. [link=http://extremeflightrc.com]Extreme flight edge 540[/link] 4. [link=http://ohiomodelplanes.com]OMP Edge 540[/link] 5. [link=http://ohiomodelplanes.com]OMP YAK[/link] 6. [link=http://spadtothebone.com/SPAD/SPA3D/]SPA3DT[/link] pick any one of those if you have any questions about any of them then PM me or post it here and I will do my best to answer them or point you to some people who can. |
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
I've flown the SPA3D, they 3D poorly. The wing flexes too much making rolling harriers and such impossible.
|
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
I've got the Burrito and the Extreme flight edge 540, both on 46's. I think the Burrito is better with the 46. I'm getting a Saito for the Edge 540. I'm not happy with it on the 46. Both are fantastic planes, but it's just my opinion with a 46, the Burrito is better. The EF Edge really needs a 50 2stroke or bigger 4 stroke to do it's magic.

RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
I like the 40-sized U-Can-Do as a small 3D plane and it looks great ... especially compared to the odd looking Magic.
|
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
so many decisions.......thanks for all the posts. now i have some more things to look at :D
|
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
You might want to check out the Seduction Wildstyle. A kit by OK Models of Japan. I've been flying mine for about a year and it is a keeper. Oh, it is light enough to be unlimited with a .46! Mine is under 4 lbs.

RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
try the new H9 twist
|
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
if you like to build, try a ca funky 40 this plane does it for me, i am new to 3d ,my first parachute try and it did it with no wing rock at all, harriers, great blenders, knife edge spins, walls this thing does it with no problem at all, and the best thing of all landings are so easy this thing floats. good luck

RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
I was looking today at www.precisionaerobatics.com Haven't bought anything yet but for .46 size they seem to have quite a few nice things..
|
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
ORIGINAL: 3DFanatic I've flown the SPA3D, they 3D poorly. The wing flexes too much making rolling harriers and such impossible. The purpose of the SPA3D is basically to let someone get comfortable in a harrier or hover low and slow. It is one of the most stable harrier planes I have flown and for a newbie to 3D it will help build confidence and comfort. Past that you are correct, it is not an advanced 3D animal. Just wanted to clarify what the airplanes mission was. |
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
It was probably the setup but the one I flew was most unstable in a hover. Maybe if it were mroe tailheavy??
|
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
Really !! that is odd mine would almost hover hands off, but it was most :D in a harrier. I take one to the field with me and let everyone else fly it, they love it and it is a kick to drag the tail across the ground.
BTW going with the theme of this thread it was powered by an OS .46 FX. |
RE: 3D plane for 46?¿
Precision Aerobatics....looks like nice stuff. Has anybody flown their new Bad Boy? it looks like a good deal and good size. Carbon fiber tubes for the wings are available also.....hmmm
|
RE: 3D plane
does anybody know of any ARF Extra 300L's or CAP232's or Edge 540's that are good 3d machines? preferably below 25%
PS Im just browsing now for my next purchase in a few months...thanks for the responses |
RE: 3D plane
the extreme flight rc profile edge, the cap-x, amd i can not think of an extra at this moment
