Laser 3D

Well,

My new customized (& slightly modified) laser 3D is done. The airplane took two SOLID weeks of building night after night and a whole lot of laying in bed thinking of how to reduce weight on an airplane that is already suppose to be a little above 5lbs. I weighed the jewel after completion (without the cowl ->still painting) and the airplane came out to be 4 1/4 lbs. I have had 6 flights on it already and have another scheduled for tommarrow. The Saito .72 provides excessive power for the airplane. I have only gotten the hovers down to five feet off the deck so far, but when the new wears off Im sure tail touches will be no problem. As soon as I get the cowl on the plane I plan to take a few pictures and post them on here for everyone to look at. If you are intrested in building one of these planes then tower sells the kit for around $120 (yeah thats a lot) but you wont be disappointed .

Current Stats for Laser 3D

Degrees of deflection on elevator: Up elevator 60 degrees, down elevator 45 degrees ( I want more but until further modification its impossible due to the control arms hitting each other).

Laser 3D

Only 10 flights on the Laser 3D now, due to crappy wheather and a sinus infection. I had scheduled another flight for this afternoon but looking out the window the wind seems to be blowing around 15mph (and increasing), not good for a 4 1/4 lb. airplane. I did manage to get some hovering time in yesterday and the plane really came to life. Hovers were a breeze and waterfalls were end over end, rolling harriers were looking rough but are getting better. The DODVF contest is comming up and if I can keep her in one piece for a few more flights I will go ahead and video tape my routine. I promised pictures and I will deleiver but it will be a while (still waiting on the whole roll of film to be taken up).

Laser 3D

Well...damn this weather!! I went out and flew anyway. The wind was blowing around 12 mph with gust to the high teens, not ideal for hovering practice but I did it anyway. The first flight was great, hovers were still stable and I had to move the anteena a couple of times to avoid contact with the plane. The 2nd flight was not as successful. I was hovering around 5 ft. and sliding down for a tail touch when I caught a gust of wind that fliped the plane over. No major damage, nothing 2 or 3 hours of glue and bracing cant fix. Theres just something about that #13 flight. Thats the same amount of flights I had on my last laser 3D before waterfalling it into the ground.
