Quique's 72" Yak 54
Has anybody received the QuiQue small Yak 54 72" wingspan?. If so, how is the quality and how does it fly.

RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
who is selling them
|
RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
Only dealers sell them. I saw one at the Hobby Barn here in Tucson today. I did not open the box, but it looked really good from the outside.

RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
How much does this size cost? $500?:D, I saw the price of the gasser at $5,000 + and couldn't believe my eyes.

RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
Yea, I am interested in this one also. If it can come in around the 11 pounds mark that is advertised with the OS 1.60FX I might pick one up. Of course if it cost 500 dollars that might deter me though.

I just got a 72 inch YAK.. I started on the plane yesturday.and it is very nice.. the packing was great.. no wrinkle in the covering.. The plane was 399.00 and I got it from RC hobby center in dayton ohio.. i have the tail on and most of the hinges in all the control surfaces. the hinges are robart type, pin hinges. I using a YS 140 sport, but really thought about a OS 160.. I think the 160 would be great and cheap.. Quique has a detailed set up manual that includes..( mixes, CG,trimming, and proper control throws)..

Looking forward to seeing those pics!! I'm on the edge of getting one with the YS140 Sport. I'd really like to know how the structure inside the fuse looks. Thanks! |
RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
Did you get a chance to take some pics? Post 'em!!
Also, I can't find the manual online, and I'm wondering what servos are recommended for it. Do they want 100oz digis all around? Or would some 625MGs work for the ailerons? |

Sorry it took so long, but here are a few pictures.. the wings, fuse, and I'll post more later. the manual is not a on line manual.. I hope to have it flying this weekend. they recommend good quailty servos that are 90 oz and above. Quique is using 8411sa on 4.8 volts.. |
RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
How does this compare to Extreme Flight's 68" Yak-54.
How is the overall quality of the plane. Of course, we will have to wait for the flight reports till someone get's one together. Cheers. |
RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
I have one for sale in the market place. Still in original outer shipping container. Would like to get $350 plus any shipping. Got bit hard by the 40% bug and never cancelled my order for this one. Craig

Sweet looking plane!
Hope I'm not being a pest, but I have a couple more questions: How are the tail controls set up? Looks like the servos are in the rear so they must be push-pull? Is there a hatch under the canopy? How do you access the radio compartment? Do you have any pics of the inside of the fuse so I can get an idea of how the structure looks? Thanks again! |
RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
Does anyone think this plane could handle a small gasser?
|
RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
does anybody have both this and the extreme flight rc 68" yak or is it too early? if somebody has both, could you give a little comparison? almost the same size...
|
RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
Just looging at the numbers, it seems that the Extreme Flight Yak has a shorter tail moment when compared to the wingspan, which I would think would make the EF Yak a better tumbler, and the Quique Yak perhaps more stable.
Does the EF Yak have an airfoiled tail? Man, I can't wait to get my hands on one of these! |
RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
Just doing some quick figuring, and the way I see it the EF yak should have about a 23oz/sq ft wing loading, and the Quique Yak should have about a 25oz/sq ft wing loading. That's assuming that since the Q Yak is about 6% more wingspan it will have about 6% more wing area, and that's figuring that both planes will come out right at the heavy end of their advertized weight range.
Very comparable really. |
RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
I now have both of them. They are built differently. Both are very well built ARFS. Quique's Yak is less scale. They say it is semi-scale while the Extreme flights Yak is much more scale. I am now finishing up the Extreme flight Yak and should test fly it in a week or so. I will start building the other Yak after the Extreme one.
IMHO, I would not put a gas engine on either of the planes. They both would be too heavy and you would probably lose all the good flying characteristics of the airplanes. Neither are built to take a gas engine. I am running a YS 1.10 in the EF Yak and I am still up in the air on the other Yak. I have a YS 140L and a OS 160. Quique flys his with a YS 140 sport. In the instruction manual he says a OS 160 is also a very good choice for the plane. |
RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
awat
How did you come to the conclusion that one of these plane is more scale than the other? I'm not doubting your judgement, I'm just wondering how can you tell? |
RE: Quique's 72" Yak 54
No problem Frankenthumb. How did you come up with that name? "Frankenthumb" I have scale drawings of the Yak 54 and pictures and on the box of Quique's Yak they state it is semi- scale.
