Very nice, have fun! How do you pronouce it again? strange spelling.

Shahid, the plane was designed my wolfgang or roland mat and all their planes are named after rubys or emeralds. this one is some sort of ruby in the lithuaniesh launguage

RE: electric smaragd freestyle

it's german emerald, they still import them, just been modified to the lazulite, the canopy has been moved forward to increase side area for better knife edge manouvers.

Interesting approach to go with the 2P config.. I guess you will prop it for 45 amps wot or so.. the extra 13 ounces of battery (if you went to 3P) sure would give you more power. The motor and controller can certainly handle it and the power curve between 45 and 60 amps is almost linear.

Good looking plane!

RE: electric smaragd freestyle

these cells are supposed to be able to go to 14c confortably and peak at 20c, but then the 3p config would give a confort zone. however I can still push 60 amps from the 2p pack. The new kokams apparently go to 23c allowing me to run just a single p pack, losing another 1lb hopefully weighing in at under 9lbs.

RE: electric smaragd freestyle

Based on how these guys over here ,'throttle', the duration would come into play, not to mention the prime "20C" discharge rates you are speaking of...

So even if the batteries hold up to the rates, the duration would not be too long at all... Not sure it's worth the weigh saviings......

Great plane and can't wait to hear how it performs electric! it might be the first SM@#$%^ that's electric!?

RE: electric smaragd freestyle

I'm hoping I won't go much over 60 amps, it's been bench run at 55 amps, that's with a 20x12apc(e). Thats probably the most it will draw what with the plane moving in flight there should be less load on the prop so less current. Most guys who use this setup are getting 12mins+ plenty for a pattern slot.

Either that or try the newer Gen 2 10-12C Thunderpower batteries. They underrate their batteries and the quality is above the rest.

I'm going to experiment with batteries, hopefullly be able to collect a few as I'm now starting a Capiche 140 leccy plane. ANd I can interchange them between models.
