3D Power source poll
If you had to choose between an electric foamie or a scale/profile glow/gasser for the rest of time, which would it be?

RE: 3D Power source poll
definatly the gas.
definatly a ys. |
RE: 3D Power source poll
gas is good. however i just love the simplicity of elctric, so it gets my vote

RE: 3D Power source poll
the thing that shoos me away from electric is how much it begins to cost when you get into larger planes. it costs a lot more than gas and gas has that cook ticking idle sound. a brushless motor (you cant go brushed with a larger 3d plane) will cost upwards of $300, and another $100 for a controller and another $100 per pack and while that eventually pays for itself in savings over gas, it still does not have that cool ticking sound.;)

RE: 3D Power source poll
listen to this then, for a 2 meter 3D aerobat
in the UK a YS 160 dingo with hyde ARI mount and propper hatori header and pipe about 600 GBP in the UK an electric setup: Macker C50 Xl with 6.6:1 (there abouts) Gearbox and a 90A ESC, 2x 5s2p lipos (wired for 10s2p (5000mah all up, 14c discharge)), prop, ESC, mount, top of the range shultze charger and a programmer for ESC about 900GBP YS 30% fuel about 30 GBP a gallon, youd use this in about 2 weeks, so, it would take 10 weeks to pay off the electric setup. even tho the Lipos go off at about 200 cycles that way over a years of flying, then it would be 400GBP to replace them, then it would be payed off in about 15 weeks of flying thats y i like leccy so much. with the new brushless and lipos i dont think IC will last too much longer, giveit 5-10 or so years an it will be very much a minority |

I have to agree with Spaceclam a well tuned YS runs close to an electric setup! amazing throttle charasteristics, and never a deadstick! |
