3-D prop for 46FX?

Hi,

I have a Funtana 46 wtih a OS FX 46. This is my first 3-D plane. It has not flown yet. I'd like to have a bigger engine, but maybe that will be a Christmas present. For now I have the 46FX.

What propeller do you suggest for this? HAve any of you had this engine in a 3-D plane and had a prop you did or did not like?

Thanks,
Tim

The APC 12x4 or APC 12.25x3.75. The 12.25x3.75 is a widder blade and I think would be the better. However your engine needs to be broken in before you run it.

depends on flying elevation and exhaust system? I have settled on 12X4 zinger flying at 4300' and with a tunned muffler, I swing it about 13,000 rpm but rarely hit full throttle.

I started with apc 12.25X3.75, it was pretty good, but on a 4.5lb airplane it would cavitate badly right at hover. the 12x4 zinger spools up much beter and does not cavitate at hover = performes very smooth at 1 to 1 power to weight and has 2 to 1 climb out power when needed.

I'll have to try a Zinger-

As for the 46FX my favorite is the 12.25x3.75 apc, the 12x4 would be a close second... It is all about big diameter and low pitch!

Cheers-

I have a 46 FX with a Tower Muffler in my Sig Somethin' Extra and I get pretty good results using an APC 12x4. Basically buy a bunch of props of varying sizes like an 11x5, 11x4, 12x5, 12x4, 12.5x3.75, etc. and try them out when you get the engine broken in and see what you like and what works best.

I feel the APC 12.5x3.75 puts too much stress on the engine. The engine runs hot. The APC 12x4 seems to be a perfect compromise between performance and reliability on my tower .46 as well as my Webra .50.

Hi all,
I´m new in the forum and I´m from Spain.
I´ve a Fun world 3D with a Webra 1.20. What propeller do you suggest for this? Do yo think 18x6 is good for this engine or there are some better.

Thank you.

the zinger wood prop weighs a lot less than apc and winds up much faster and just as important it slows down instantly rather than gradual. I notice the difference while rolling harrier - at a high angle of attack my diablotin likes to stall or get stuck while rolling through inverted - I pump the throttle and down elevator at this point to keep it rolling smooth. the apc prop seemes like a slow servo, I could get use to it but the lighter wood prop makes it a lot easier because you instantly get gas or brakes at any angle.

APC 12x4 for 46FX here also, tried all and this is the best performer getting about 12300-12600 rpm with 15% fuel and stock everything.

Secret is low pitch prop, like 12x4,

Move cg back little at a time, and rudder is needed
