An 11 hour drive one way is just a tad long... especially with the Holidays here...

I suppose I'll tough it out and fly on those rare decent days through the winter.

Lord willin', I'd like to do a road trip one day... see America and flyin as many different states as money allows... :) Wouldn't that be a hoot?

From 3D flying in Arizona with the guys at DA to sloping the coastal cliffs of California...

It would be nice to get a large travel trailer and haul myself around. :)

You know... the travel trailers that the motocross dirt bikers use have a cargo section in the back. Would make a perfect airplane hauler/living quarters. Ahhhh

I have 4 flights on mine. A little coupling during knife edge, no bad habits that I have found.

Tried a 23/8 bolly prop and it seems to fly better than the carbon ones I tried. This plane will hover at 1/4 throttle

There seems to be some discrepency regarding the standoffs for the DA50 on the Vision. The original manual said to use 2.5" standoffs, and the new "revised" manual says to use 1/25" standoffs. Problem is, with the shorter standoffs, that pushes the cowl back into the gear and you have to cut out a lot of cowl. Also, this would move your balance back a good bit.

Can anyone flying the Vision explain what standoffs you used, what you did about the cowl, how it balanced... battery & servo position, etc..

Also interested in your opinions on using the CA hinges as supplied?

Daryl, you say you've been flying yours and love it... how bout some info?

I used the standoffs that Came with the DA 50. They worked well, only cutting out a small notch for the gear. I changed the hinges to B & B Giant scale hinges. They seem stronger.

Where did you balance it at? Where did you have to place the battery to do so? Pull-pull rudder or servo in the tail? In quiring minds want to know... :)


BTW... Ijust got some 5995TG servos in.... ZERO lash in the geartrain... simply awesome. 333 oz. in torque

It is balanced behind the tube, and going back. The rudder is pull-pull. It flies well, although the Cg is coming back about another inch or so before it is all said and done.

You can't go wrong with either plane... the upside to the Vision is that it is in stock now. But the Yak's are purported to be around the bend...

What impressed me with these videos is the wind was howling, but the plane doesn't seem to show much adverse reaction... not getting bumped around and tracking true... Of course the low speed harriers (upright and inverted) and the harrier circles are something too...

These two planes will be neck and neck for top 50cc Monoplane ARF of 2005...

It was raining hard today so I went to the work shop to align my DA-50 on the Vision. I'm using the Slimline muffler so I wanted to mount the engine inverted. I had noted that Chip has the engine canted to the side for the header etc.

I lined the cowl up with the fuselage and then decided to make up a tool to find the center of the thrust line on the fire wall. It made it real easy to mark the firewall and then extrapolate the stand-off holes. Then the rain stopped (VBG)

I had a chance to fly mine today, and I love it, I installed the engine with the suplied 2 1/2 inch stand offs and it flies fine, I am using hitec 5645 on everything, except rudder, on the rudder I am using a jr 8611, no cables, I balanced it with a jr 3000 mah battery behind the tube, against the radio tray, I think after the engine gets broken in I'll move the battery back maybe about an inch or more. For power, DA 50 with tunned pipe, awesome!!

Finished mine tonight, hopefully will get it in the air tomorrow. DA-50 mounted on supplied standoffs. Using Duralites for batteries balanced at back of wing tube. Using Futaba digitals all around, I decided to go with the dual aileron set up. Maybe overkill in the wings but this is one big plane compared to my GP PW. Anybody have any tips for the first flights?

Relax... this plane willl make the Patty feel like a Roseanne. :)

Seriously tho, I'm betting this plane will feel like it's 1/2 the weight of the Patty in the air, float in on landing.

You should have plenty of time for recoveries and little tendency to snap.

Speaking of snap... you guys with the warm air and green grass...

Whose done some walls? Both upright and inverted entering? How about elevators?

The fusalage looks exactly like the DV, I wonder if the Visions wings would fit on the DV. 2 planes for the price of 1.5.

that's a nice thought.

It's close but not really the same. The bottom, bi-plane, wing would be the equivalent to the Vision wing and is in the wrong place. I think that you would have to move the tube etc.

Since the snow has started flying up, and the Vision was on the building board, I started to read your threads on the Vision. I decided to use a little different approach to the stand-offs. After reading that Chip now goes along with the shorter stand-offs, but only having the standard ones, I decided the easiest thing to do was cut 2" off the front of the fuse. It was then pretty simple to stand the fuse up on end and trace a new firewall out on a piece of aircraft ply. When I cut the old parts out I weighed them, minus 5 oz, add for the new firewall and triangle stock, 3 oz, Hmm, just saved 2 oz!!

While it was opened up I also thought about the tank location. I don't know about you guys but I don't like the CG moving around on me as I go from full tank to near empty. So I took the fuel tank mounting plate marked the location of the center of the tank and fit it in under the wing tube by cutting out the formers there. I realize this would create a problem if your running a pipe and need the hollowed out area, but I'm using a Slimline Pitts that I've had on the DA.

I've taken some pictures and I'll post them if anybodies interested.

Tank location... yep... you can cut the cross piece from the bottom of one former and install the tank under the tube...

You can also install it above the tube and cut the former out of the hatch (and move it forward to maintain strength) so if you use the pipe you can still center the tank on CG.

Cut 2" off the plane eh? True to your RCU handle... ;) Well as they say... uh.... "Good luck with that." :)
