hitec digital servos question
 

Hi folks, recently I have purchased my new Hitec servos from Tower. One HS-5945mg coreless and two HS5625mg high speed. My point is when I plug them in they squeak like hell. I mean like high pitch noise. I never heard any servo squeak like that. Is this normal? I tried running them on 4.8V as well as 6V battery packs but they produce identical sound. Or is that because I'm running it on PPM rather than PCM receiver??
Otherwise they move smooth and fast.

dont worry about it, thats normal in a digital servo.

I have 8 hitec digitals. 6 5645 and 2 5945. When they are receiving power, there should be a high pitched hum from them. If you try to move the arm with them on the hum will get louder and louder. Listen for this when you hook them up. If the squeel real loud when you hook them up then you have 2 servos fighting each other and they should be re adjusted

digital servo's are really sensistive to movement, bit like when standard buzz and hum when you put a load on them, just that digital's are alot more sensitive and quicker.

I have 8 of those 5945 installed in my 33% Cap (avatar), and they sound like bees. That noise is actually an indication that they are installed and programmed properly when the noise stops. I found that by widening the dead band to 3msec they buz a lot less, and become therefore a little less power hungry without noticeable precision loss.

i'm not trying to start rumors, but has anyone every had or heard of any problems with Hitec's 56xx series digital servos?

thanks guys, appreciate your comments, makes me feel better now. Actualy the other thing I noticed is that if I turn the receiver on before transmitter they seem to wiggle a lot until I turn transmitter on. Is that because I'm running it from 6V battery? If I don't want this to happen I turn my transmitter on first and then there's no problem. Sorry about these silly questions I've been flying for a few years but basicaly I'm new digitals and this is my new experience.

i think this hobby has gotten so technologically advanced there's no such thing as silly questions. i'm trying to decide on an engine for my wild hare edge and still haven't made a decision and i've been thinking about it for months. just too much to consider...

to try to answer your question about Hitec digitals. I believe their first-run digitals, the 56xx series did have some issues. This was at least a year ago or maybe 2. I don't remember the specifics but I think it had something to do with setting the radio up for greater than 100% servo travel and then they would lock up in a certain position. I know the one of the fixes was to send them back to Hitec and it seems like there were other work-arounds but I don't remember. Anyone else want to confirm?

Yes the Hitec 56XX series had some issues about two years ago they went through a change of programming that includedupdating the HPF-10 servo programmer to newer software that fixed the problems.

The hum is normal, just the weight of the surface on the linkage can cause this to happen so don't sweat it.

Something you really need to make sure of is the quality of your extensions, 22 guage wire with gold contacts at a minimum. It seems the Hitec digis really like to have their power when they demand it and there have been reports of strange behavior when these rules weren't followed.

I own 10 Hitec Digitals and have not had ANY issues with tme at all, EXCEPT for the time when I tried to drive one with a reversing Y harness in my UCD 60. That was a huge mistake and it fried the one that was on the reveresed side of the Y harness, DO NOT use a reversing Y harness with these digital servos or you'll be sorry.

Other than that one situation I have had great service from these and will probably buy many more of them in the years to come.

Is it ok to Y to servos together and then form that Y to the other servo...doign 3 servos per aileron?
