Funtana 90 and Moki 1.35?
 

Anyone tried a Moki 1.35 on the F90 yet? If so how did it go? Prop size/performance etc. I'm trying to decide between a YS120NC and the 1.35. I know it flies well with the 120 from what I've read, but I like the fuel economy of the 1.35 on less nitro.
I also know that Dave Patrick will be introducing a line a modified Moki engines in the US with a lower compression ratio so it will run on 10% instead of 0% like the Moki. They changed the head and something with the ring. I got this info right from Dave himself this weekend at Ihobby expo in Chicago, so this engine may be worth a look. I see he has the 2.1 on the web site now.

Todd, I started a thread in the Engines forum talking about those Dave Patrick engines.

I doubt anyone has tried a Moki 1.35. By the way I checked the weight on JustEngines.com and it is 30 ounces without a muffler. With a muffler probably around 33-34 ounces. That is exactly the weight of a Saito 180 which will balance the plane perfectly.

YES I HAVE THE FUNTANA 90 AND MOKI 135 IT BALANCES AND FLYS GREAT. I USE A BREAK -IN PROP (APC16X8 ) RIGHT NOW LOOKING TO GET TALLER GEAR TO USE A Apc 18X6 WIDE

I DID HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM THOUGH. I NEVER FLY OVER 1/2 THROTLE
SO I DONT OVER STRESS MY PLANES. I DID LET A BUDDY FLY IT ONE DAY AND THE MOTOR WAS NOT RUNNINIG RIGHT SO HE TRIED TO CLEAR IT OUT . JUST AS I HEARD IT REV UP I YELLED BUT IT WAS TO LATE!
THE LEFT WING BLEW UP AND THE SERVO WAS HANGING BY THE PUSH
ROD AND THE RIGHT WING WAS INTACT BUT THE 4721 JR SERVO BLEW OUT ALL THE GEARS. HE DID MANAGE TO LAND IT SAFELY BUT THE WINGS WERE DESTROID (HE DID GET ME A NEW WING SET ).
THE PLANE FLYS GREAT AND HAS PLENTY OF POWER JUST KEEP THE RPM
DOWN EXCEPT FOR PULLING VERTICAL AND YOU'LL LOVE IT.

Well Todd, looks like I was wrong, someone did try it. The Moki is very strong, gotta be easy on the throttle. Only blast it when you're stalled, never at flying speed. I'd say it would be a great 2-stroke for the F90.

I am currently flying the F90 with a Moki 1.35. At our field elevation (5000ft) a FX91 would not hold a hover. The moki hovers it at 1/2 throttle or less. I didnt need to add any weight to balance with the Moki just moved the battery. My biggest problem was landing gear, too short for big props also replaced tail gear. I think the Moki is as good an engine as I have owned in 40 years. Floyd

I have a Funtana with a Moki 135. I did put a carbon fiber LG on it for clearance. This is an awesome combination with no balance problems. USE THROTTLE MANAGEMENT. I also own(and run) several other 1.8 and 2.1 Moki's and do not run a Cline regulator unless I put the tank at the CG. Getting the idle adjustment right is the hard part. I would try it first before you spend that much money. Good flying. Dale

Thanks for the info. I see Fiber Lite has a Carbon fiber gear for the F90 for around $30 thats taller by about 2 inches.
Did you beef up the firewall for that Moki 1.35? What mount did you use?
I haven't even built mine yet and I'm already eyeing that up.

If you're going to do 3d dont make my mistake! Like Joe said, I didnt have a positive fuel feed on my larger Moki. It flamed out in a low torque roll at like 6 inches and thouroughly trashed the front end.

The Moki does not like drawing fuel that great while doing 3d, and if your cowling inlet cooling isn't just right it will go lean and bog down. Mine has done this many times also, the last time nearly costing me the plane.

The low end disc will eventually become loose so watch out for this. It can be fixed by putting a small rubber band around it.

Just my opinion;)

The idle adjustment is difficult but critical. Any engine will die or sputter if not adjusted correctly(especially in hover), even with a pump or Cline regulator. My suggestion is to get it as close as you can on the ground, then get a friend to hold it vertical while you pretend to be hovering. Bring the speed down to part throttle, hold it there for 15 or 20 seconds, then mash the throttle to wide open. Any sputtering or sagging indicates the idle adjustment is wrong. Continue this until you can get a clean, rapid acceleration. Use very small movements of the idle drum. Good flying. Dale

I own a moki 1.35 and the low end came loose on me. I just set it perfect wile someone held it and then JB welded it later. It will never move again. HA.

I have flown it this way at 900ft and at 4500ft and no change. Another thing is i did not notice the power loss due to elevation with my moki like i did with my brison. The moki still pulls just as hard.

Because of this thread i am going to be putting my moki in the FUNTANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am planing on putting a moki 135 in my new funtana 90

it is my first moki

do you you use a perry pump ?
if so can you show me the fuel line setup because i see a lot of diagrams and i am not so sure

I use a perry osilating pump it works great. I had my tank on the landing gear of my Cermark Pitts and it would pull fuel from their and that was a long way. Even when it was vertical it never skipped a beat.
