Inverted hover is reality.......
I just came back from the JR Indoor Electric Festival in Columbus, OH and witnessed a electric foamy doing an inverted hover.
That's right, the nose was pointed down in a hover, it backed up a small amount and then went down again. I wish I had video. It has a variable pitch prop and a helicopter set up on the throttle. I was pretty nifty. |
RE: Inverted hover is reality.......
How does it control the tail surfaces? With the prop blast blowing down to the ground there is vitually no air going over the rudder or elevator. Hope fully we'll see a video of it sometime soon.

RE: Inverted hover is reality.......
There is no air over the control surfaces, the prop is in the reverse thrust mode and it just seems to balance on its nose.
Like I said, it would ascend tail first for a short time. I'm sure the pilot has "talented thumbs". There were plenty of cameras there. I just hope someone can post the flight because it is truly amazing. |
