Tiporary--need some help
 

I am getting this plane ready for flight-- I bought it already built, and I am told it is very elevator sensitive. Is this true? And where is the CG and the recommended throws. Thanks a ton for the help. BTW-has anybody out there glassed the wings and stab?

I can't povide you with the CG, but I can say that the Tipo's were fairly elevator sensitive. I believe I ran about 1/2" - 5/8" on high rate. Low was around 3/8". A lot of people set the CG slightly ahead of the main wheels (trike) so that the plane would sit on it's tail with an empty fuel tank if you pushed the tail down while it sat on the ground.

You are going to have to let us know whether or not your Tipo is a Great Planes or Hanson kit as they are slightly different.

Yes, I glassed the wing and tail on my second Tipo. It came out heavy and wasn't worth the effort. If yours is covered in film, leave it. If it's glassed and you are considering refinishing it, sand all of the paint off and repaint it as light as possible. Tipo's only have about 750 sq. inches and the wing loading can climb pretty fast.

Thanks a lot John--It is the Great Planes Kit I am almost positive-- and I just got the plane and engine with no radio gear installed--I see where the servos were installed but not the battery--so you give me a good place to start behind the landing gear. PS_this is a taildragger. Thanks again!

Behind the landing gear leaves a lot of area to play with on a TD :)

I searched Google and a few other engines, but couldn't find any tech data on the Tipo, Great Planes or otherwise. I did find a picture of a plane with a belly pan (missing) that I guy called a Tipo, but it most certainly was not ;)

You might want to see if you can find someone from NSRCA.ORG who still has one in flying condition who can check their CG for you. Or, you might call Great Planes (try Ann Marie) to see if someone doesn't have a set of plans stuck up on a wall somewhere. Worse case, figure 30-33% of the mean chord and start there with caution. As long as you are close to the high point of the wing, you should be pretty safe.
