ZDZ 80 single Tuning

Hello,
I'm breaking in my ZDZ 80 but it doesn,t want to idle.
How long should I expect to run it before it will idle.
What do you guys have your needles set at?
I,m running 97 octane gas and blendzall Castro synthetic blend(could not find any oil for air cooled engines)
Thanks,

John

I had the same problem,,,,,, you probably have the butterfly in the carb moving the wrong direction. readjust so the bitterfly closes on the opposite side. it is very easy to make this mistake.
mine idled just fine after i did this.

I'd set my needles 1-1/2 turns from fully closed to get the engine started initially. Out of the box mine was set at about 4 turns, engine sounded like it was having a seizure. Re-adjusted them and it smoothed out nicely. The first gallon of gas should be with premium gas blended 40:1 with a petroleum based 2 stroke oil. I used 2 stroke oil from honda. John, I would try to order some oil if you can't find it locally. I would be hesitant to run synthetic for breakin. Hope your not using synthetic motor oil. Follow the instructions that came with the engine. Initially getting the engine to fire took alot of effort. I squirted a little gas in the carb, this helped. Did you remove the carb from the engine and disassemble the carb? Why would the carb butterfly be reversed? I'd be willing to bet that your idle problems is caused by your low needle being out of adjustment.

i agree with lou the looper you carb butterfly is probably backwards. when the throttle is closed do you see the threads or screw head on the center of the butterfly. if you see the screw head it is backwards. disconnect the control linkage and reverce the butterfly so when the carb is closed you see the threaded end. Dont use synthetic oil for break in

Thanks Guys,
I did have the butterfly backwards, after looking at it good last night i saw the fuel jet and the hole in the throttle plate, the hole has to be on the same side as the jet when the throttle is closed.
Started her up this mornig and no problem.
What are you guys using to keeb your klunk line from comming of in the tank, would gas eat up a tie-rap.
Also I found some oil for 2 stroke aircooled engines in a hardware store I cant remember the name right now but I will post it later to see what you think, I've never heard of it.

BTW the oil I'm using now is blendzall racing castor, and not the Synthetic castor blend, my mistake. O and yes it is for two stroke engines

Thanks,

Nelson

The name of the oil is Alco's smokeless 2-cycle oil for aicooled engines. Any body heard of it.
